Dear Parents,
I think spring has finally arrived.
The children are showing signs of "new life" (if you
know what I mean). We're anxious to get outside to enjoy some
outdoor activities!
Spring is a busy time at OLR. Our OLR Auction is Saturday, April
24th. The list of items up for bid is quite impressive ranging
from vacation getaways to lovely gift baskets. I hope to see
you all there in support of our school.
Spring is a busy time for first graders as well. Of course, Easter
break is right around the corner. Then on Friday, May 7th, we
present our Mother's Day Program (mark your calendars, moms).
On Monday, May 10th, we'll visit the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum.
Finally, June 2nd is our First Grade Picnic at Hess-Hathaway
Park. Watch for details coming your way!
A quick reminder: there will be no school for first graders on
Friday, April 30th.
Please send in the Reading Logs for March. We're anxious to total
our minutes to see if we'll be having an ice cream party.
Have a great week!
Ms. Kopilchack

This week's activities:
Reading/Writing
This week we'll review
and be tested on all that we've learned while reading our last
four stories. We'll also begin a new story called, In the Attic,
which encourages us to use our imaginations.
We carry this imagination theme into our writing. The children
will be learning about the writing process to help us create
our own "Bunny Tales." (See attached.)
Phonics/Word Wall Activities
This week we begin learning
consonant blends beginning with R and L blends. We continue with
our Word Wall activities to help reinforce our knowledge of sight
words.
Math
We complete our Money unit this week.
We'll continue to practice counting coins at learning centers.
Science
We wrap up our health unit
with a look at dental health. We'll learn all about keeping our
teeth clean and healthy.
Religion
We continue to observe
Lent and learn of ways we can be more like Jesus. We'll also
learn about the Stations of the Cross.
