Dear Parents,
This month is "National Reading
Month" which officially begins with Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2nd. To kick
things off, the first graders will enjoy a day of reading in
their pajamas! The children are to wear pajamas to school tomorrow
and bring with them a favorite book and pillow. We will read
to each other and to our 8th grade buddies. We'll also have a
guest reader visit us.
For the entire month I'm asking that the children keep a home
reading log. If we can read 7500 minutes collectively (that's
roughly 10 minutes a night for each child), we'll celebrate with
a class party.
I'm also looking for volunteers to come in and read to the children.
(It would be nice to get some dads in here). Please send
a note in with your child if you are interested and we'll set
up a time. Oh, and it's BYOB (bring your own book)!
Have a great week!
Ms. Kopilchack

This week's activities:
Reading/Writing
Our story this week is
One Monday Morning--a fantasy story that teaches us about the
narrative point of view.
Phonics/Word Wall Activities
We begin the long vowel
"o" this week.
Math
We begin our Money unit this week.
The children will learn how to identify coins and recognize their
values. We'll be doing a variety of activities to reinforce this
concept. Please send to school with your child: 4 quarters,
10 dimes, 5 nickels and 20 pennies for our hands-on activities.
Science
We've been learning about
our 5
senses and will be moving on to "Taking Care of Our
Health" this week.
Religion
We continue to learn about
what it means to be a Christian and a Catholic. We will also
learn about Lent and how we can become more like Jesus.
Homework
- Silly rhyming words, math worksheet and read every night!
