Happy Valentine's Day

Dear Parents,

This is a big week for us. The children are excited about sharing their President Reports; we are really looking forward to our Valentine's Day Party on Friday; and of course, we can't wait for Winter Break!

President Reports should be in your child's own handwriting. Your child was asked to draw a picture to go with the report. This too, is to be done by your child. Your child should be able to read his/her report with some assistance. We will begin sharing our reports on Thursday.

On Friday, we will exchange Valentines and enjoy a class party. The children were asked to bring in a decorated box for Valentine cards. It's always fun to "deliver" our cards and to show off our beautiful boxes. According to our Party Moms, our party is all set. This is a quiet affair and since space is limited, should only be attended by our Party Moms.

I'm still looking for old magazines--with lots of pictures of food in them-for our health unit. Grocery store circulars would be great too.

Have a great week!

Ms. Kopilchack

Homework - Attached activities, President Report.

This week's activities:

Reading/Writing
Our story this week is Chicken Licken. This story introduces us to a "new" genre: the play. While reading this story, we will learn about such story elements as character, plot and setting. We are also introduced to possessives.

We begin writing our seventh class book this week, "If I Were the President."

Phonics/Word Wall Activities
We continue learning the long "i" sound and the spelling patterns that make the long "i" sound (i_e , _igh_ , _ie , and _y).

Math
We are currently studying place value and number patterns. Soon we'll be introduced to estimation and greater than/less than.

Science
We wrap up our Sound, Light and Heat activities this week and will investigate how animals stay warm. We'll begin our Health unit when we return from Winter Break.

Religion
We continue learning about prayer this week and will wrap up with a review of Jesus' teachings.
