Brrr! Bundle Up!

Dear Parents,

Wow, is it cold! Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing and is bundled up complete with a hat and mittens. Your child should also have snow pants to help keep his/her legs warm (especially the girls). I see too many bare legs on the playground!

Our second semester is underway. Report cards will be sent home with your child on Monday, January 26th.

As I'm sure you all know, next week is Catholic Schools Week. Our school schedule is as follows:

Monday - Muffins with Mom (8 a.m. in lunchroom), Slipper Day (student's wear slippers instead of shoes.)

Tuesday - Donuts with Dad (8 a.m. in lunchroom), Grandparent Day Grand- parents provide and eat lunch with grandchildren (11:20 a.m. in social hall.)

Wednesday - Special Catholic Schools Day Mass, School Tours.

Thursday - Pajama Day (1st graders only). Wear your pajamas to school.

Friday - Mission Jean/Red, White & Blue Day (wear red, white and blue with jeans) and Wacky Hair Day.
Have a great week!

Thanks and have a great week!

Homework - Attached activities.

This week's activities:

Reading/Writing
Our story this week is, Hattie and the Fox. While reading this story, we'll learn about exclamatory phrases and the use of quotation marks. Not only will these help us to become more "interesting" readers, but they'll aid us in our writing as well.

We will be doing a lot more writing this semester to include journal writing, class and individual books and special projects.

Phonics/Word Wall Activities
We begin learning long vowel sounds and the spelling patterns that make the sounds. This week, long A (make, rain, and say).

Our Word Wall continues to grow. We now have over 98 words on the wall!

Math
We begin our unit on Data and Graphing this week. We'll learn how to collect and record data and how to read a graph.
Science/Theme Activities

Science
This week we'll learn about light and shadows as part of our physical science unit.

In continuing with our Winter Theme, we'll learn about polar animals and will do a hands-on blubber experiment.

Religion
We continue to learn how much God cares for us and how we can show His love to others. We'll also read about "The Good Samaritan."
