October 6, 2003

Dear Parents,

For the next two weeks (October 6th-17th), your child will be given the
CogAT test for Grade 1 students. This is NOT AN ACHIEVEMENT
TEST. We are testing first graders to look at the development of their
reasoning abilities that are crucial for his/her success in school. There
will be NO reading involved as this is a teacher dictated test.

There are 6 subtests, each lasting approximately 20 minutes. We will not
be administering more than one test per day
.

The results of the test are intended for teacher use only. Parents will
not receive a results sheet for first grade testing. CogAT results
primarily reflect the student's ability to discover relationships and to
demonstrate flexibility in thinking. The results of this assessment will
allow the first grade teachers to plan successful, individual interventions
to aid your child's learning process.

Please help us out by making sure your child is well rested and comes to
school on time having had a nutritious breakfast.

As always, thank you for your support.
