HOMEWORK

Remember that first grade homework should take about 20  minutes each night.  It is good to practice reading and spelling the words on the word ring every night.  It really helps if you take off the words from the ring and mix them up, practicing a few times each day just reading all the words on the word ring.  Doing the words in the same order everyday is like listening to a CD over and over.  You quickly memorize the order and know what comes next even before you see (hear) it.   It promotes attending to print when you take the words off the ring and mix the order each time.

The homework for the week of
March 30-April 3
The new spelling words for this week are:
come   some   something   sometimes   put

In the homework bag you should find 3 iittle books. ***  We will be introducing and reading one book each night---Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Remember to go over the word cards on the ring in the homework bag.  Take them off the ring and shuffle the cards each time.

*** Title 1 reading students should read the books in their reading teacher's bag.

You will find a math ring of cards in the homework bag.  It has
math flash cards to practice.  We do a daily 2 minute practice paper.  You will see addition coming home until your child gets 9 stars on addition papers.  Then they will begin subtraction papers.  After 9 stars on subtraction papers your child will have their name put on the Wall of Distinction at Huber Ridge for math in first grade.  You will notice that the papers will get progressively harder after each group of 3 stars.  You can make flash cards from the problems on those papers if you don't see a card for any problem that seems to be missed often.  Thanks for your help in learning these math facts.
