France, Easter 2003
The Easter Holiday weekend saw Brigid, Bruce, Chris, Elaine, Karen, Rowena and I off to explore Brittany in France. It was my first time on the chunnel...pretty cool, until you start thinking about the amount of water over your head! It was about a 5 hour drive to our cottage which was nestled amongst a tiny village, with lots of ruins and lots of dogs, outside a small village called Sougeal.

Our second day took us touring to the Island Monastery of Mont Saint Michel. It is quite spectacular and can be seen from ages away. Within the monastery is very touristy and has extremely narrow and steep streets and quite spectacular views. We then took the coastal road, with a few beach stops and ended up having fresh oysters with a delicious garlic topping in Dinard by the sea.

Day Three took us to Fougeres and the exploration of Fougeres Chateau (castle). It was used between the 11th and 15th centuries and has outer walls, defence, towers and remnants of an inner village. Quite the most gorgeous place with stunning scenery and gardens. Onwards from Fougeres
and into Vitre which has character filled narrow streets with wonky buildings and doors you need to duck under...

Day Four and we trotted off for a general drive, to see what we came across. Fort Latte has been kept in peak condition over the years and sits right on the cliffs. The surrounds were
gorgeous and provided heaps of soft steep hills for the tourist kids to go head over heels down (quite a funny spectacular). From here we ended up in our first tacky town - Sables-d'Or. It had no character, food was terrible, typical tourist place you want to stay away from - but we did find the Hotel de Diane!
Balancing precariously on the drawbridge of Fort Latte - there was quite a distance to the ground and waves crashing on rocks!
See, knew I was famous somewhere - got a hotel named after me!!!
Our last day and we dropped into Honfleur - a port on the way back to Calais. Very picturesque with plenty of creperies to choose from - and overpriced nougat!
