| The October half term holiday took Dave and I to sunny Barcelona for a quick trip. Got there late Monday night, indulged on local beer and hit bed late before getting up on Tuesday, seeing the Christopher Colombus statue and wandering along the main street - Las Ramblas. Here we had spanish omelettes for breakfast and were unwittingly charged 20 euro for 2 orange juices (thats around 14 pound or $33). Then we met up with a bike tour which took us round the city - to modernism buildings, the Catedral, past the bull ring and to Le Sagrada Familia - Gaudi's church which has been under construction for over 80 years and is still not completed... |
| After seeing Barcelona's Arc de Triomf and riding through the Parc de Ciutadella (dodging puddles), we headed down to the Olympic Village and onto the beach for a refreshing Sangria and pizza. We hooked up with some Aussies from the bike tour and had a couple of drinks (at an Irish pub...) before heading out to dinner to a superb seafood restaurant by the harbour, then home, some drinks at the hostel and bed... |
| Wednesday saw us planning to hit some museums and go up the hill that staged the Olympics, however transport was not on our side and due to language problems and high winds, we had to walk all the way up the mountain rather than taking the funicular and cable car... We scrambled our way up to the castle on top but the view was all worth it... Continuing our hike, we went to the Olympic Stadium and past the diving pool with the best view in the world! |
| That night, we had a short game of golf at the driving range on top of our hostel then headed out to drinks and dinner with the Aussies from the bike tour. Had a great dinner, drank way too much and collapsed into bed way too late. Thursday was our last day so we quickly darted up to see the Manzana de Discordia - a street with 3 modernista houses - brilliant, before catching a taxi back to the airport. |
