Peace Rally 2004
Rally for Peace - Saturday, March 20th
'It is one year since the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan and the death toll continues to mount. The world is not more secure but less so. Once again groups all over Canada are gathering to say "no" to war and to Canadian involvement in the US Missile Defense System. Let us imagine what a different world we could build if arms spending were used to meet real human needs.'
When I read the above article, I decided to participate in the Rally. It was for a good cause. However, that day was bitterly cold and pouring down rain. I was very impressed at the number of people who still managed to overcome the elements to come out to support this cause. Chuck and Sunao had also joined with me in this. There were protest speakers, politicians, and musicians. They passed around soup to help keep us warm. Later they all marched down to Joe Fontana's office to present a petition asking that Canada reaffirm its support for non-proliferation, arms control and disarmament. This includes non-participation in the missile defense system and the weaponization of Space.
