Christmas Letter 1999
December 1999
Ho Ho Ho.... ‘tis that time of year
again.... and once again I’m carrying out our yearly tradition for a Christmas
Letter for 1999. This has been a very busy yet fun year for all of us! Many
things have happened, many changes took place, and met some interesting people.
Here’s the recap that was going on in 1999 to family and friends:
Aaron Fallowfield started a new
venture in being a partner in London’s new dinner/theatre called ‘The Old
Factory Theater’. We all thought it was so wonderful for Aaron to
bravely start on his dream in the theatre! We were so excited! We even went to
see some of the excellent comedies that were showing.
Andrew Mitchell finally debuted his
first CD release! It was just a matter of time. We knew you could do anything
you set your mind to. The name of his collection of all original work is called
‘Family Photo’ and is still available if you would like a copy! The release
party was held at a London tavern called ‘Call the Office’. We’re really proud
of you Andrew!
Marianna Baker had displayed all
her fabulous paintings at a local Library and then later had hooked up with
Aaron to have them displayed at his theater! Again, another debut showing for
someone so talented! She also displays most of her work in her home. It
definitely is a bold statement!
During Girl’s Night Out, my hair caught on
fire at Marianna’s place where our monthly outing was being hosted.
Lucky for me, her daughter, Fanny, had seen my hair in flames, while I
was totally unaware, and immediately rushed to my side and proceeded to douse
the flames. I was grateful for her quick response before losing too much hair.
It finally hit me when I got home and was in tears. I was devastated! Craig
had been so sweet to me. He ran me a bath, cut out the burnt ends and washed my
hair for me. The damage wasn’t too bad but I ended up getting a hair cut to
even it out.
While listening to the radio, I called in
and won ‘the Battle of the Sexes’! My opponent, a man, didn’t get any correct
answers. Here are the 3 questions that I got:
·
In ancient Egypt, average life span was 80 years old... T/F
- I said false - correct
·
Old cheese was dug from the ground, was it still edible...
Y/N - I said I won’t eat it but no time to answer - therefore I got it wrong
·
In Holland, Santa has a helper... Black Peter, Yani, some
German name - I said the German name but Black Peter was the correct answer
My big news this year was the creation of my
new Website! Lennon had designed my original site. Unfortunately, it
crashed too often at the Fortunecity server that was hosting my address. Thanks
to Ayden Townsend, Troy’s brother, he now hosts my site (much more
reliable than before) and I had revamped the entire site in FrontPage 98 (again
thanx to Ayden). My site included all kinds of free stuff and feature
stories that changed on the 15th of every month. Unfortunately, due
to lack of material, we will not be changing the site regularly anymore. The
site will remain active and occasionally change when I receive new material.
You can visit our site (and see some pictures in the ‘About our Writers’
section from the homepage at: www.bell-mar.on.ca
Even BIGGER NEWS... Lennon turned 18
(I feel old now), he moved out, quit school, got a job, got engaged, got a bad
deal with roomies, fiancé broke up with him, changed jobs, changed roomies, got
evicted (but fixed the problem), debuted playing his guitar at Coffee Grind,
started recording a CD with Amiel (didn’t pan out for him), got beaten
up by some local hoods, went on welfare, got some temporary jobs, got another
girlfriend, and changed roomies again. ALL THIS AND IT HASN’T BEEN A WHOLE YEAR
YET!!!! At least he stills comes over for dinner and does his laundry at our
house every other Sunday.
Carol held Chantal’s christening in Fort
Erie. Michel is the godfather. It was so nice to see that Carol
is keeping the tradition of having her kids wearing the same christening gown
that we wore on our christening. We, meaning: myself, Michel, Carol, Suzy
and Lennon.
Craig has an uncanny nac of landing great deals
on cars! So, we both replaced our cars with newer models. He has also
resurrected his business of fixing cars in our driveway! He will beat any
garage’s price for parts and labour. So, if you need your car fixed, call Craig!
He is still working hard at Diamond Aircraft in Engine Build-Up.
This year my dad turned 65! Carol had
organized and did a wonderful job with Pa’s surprise birthday party! We
had been getting ready for months in advance. Craig and I were collecting
pennies from our neighbourhood to create a plaque for Pa. We had a
tremendous response from family, friends, and neighbours looking through their
penny jars to find all the pennies we needed for every year since 1934. I even
had an article published in the London Free Press, thanking everyone. The party
turned out better than we imagined. For more details, see my website (it also
includes photos). From the homepage, click on ‘About the Writers’ then on ‘Diane’s
Personal Website’.
WE’VE GOT A NEW DOG!! We lucked out big time
with her. Her name is Lady and is part Sheltie and part Golden Lab. She
was 6 months old when we got her. She is the most gentle and friendliest dog
we’ve ever seen. We keep her indoors and is a big part of our family now. We
love her!
Michel’s Aussie friends came to visit him
here in London. Michel held a dinner party for them at our house (he’s a
great cook). While Michel was at work, I took them to see the police station (Mick is a cop in
Australia). I also took Mick and his sister to Bellamere Farms. Michel
met Mick while on vacation in Thailand. Michel returned the
favour and went to Australia for 5 weeks for another vacation this year!
Over the summer holidays, we got a chance to
have Tara and Chantal for 2 weeks! Carol and Tim
were celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary. I was
definitely in my glory! We had a lot of fun and did a lot of neat things. I’m
hoping we can do this on a yearly basis. We love them so much!
Chuck Greiff is not working at
Fanshawe anymore. He’s now devoting most of his time to his companion, Sunao.
He is also venturing to write a novel with Andrew Mitchell. Between the
two of them, I really think that this book will be awesome! They’re both very
talented, creative and witty enough to pull it off.
Craig and I celebrated our first year
wedding anniversary! We went to ‘Michael on the Thames’ for dinner and are
planning to make it our yearly tradition! The only other thing we did on our
anniversary was to create a new recipe for potato soup at 2 a.m. (we had fun
doing that). It’s been a wonderful year
together!
The new face for this year is Vinny’s
new girlfriend, Donna. She’s quite a catch for Vinny! We’re all
hoping to have her meet the group at our New Year’s (Y2K) eve party.
Darlene is sweet 16 now and is trying to get
her driver’s license. Always busy babysitting, going out with friends, making
money, and spending it as she gets it! She loves going to Tim Horton’s for
their Café Mocha. She also just started working a part-time job at Harvey’s for
the first time. Congratulations, Darlene!
Adam & Mason got their chance of a
lifetime! This year, through Diamond Aircraft (where Craig works) they
had the opportunity to be IN the Christmas Parade! They
had a wonderful time being Santa’s elves and sitting inside the cockpit of a
mock Katana. Their float was the second one in the parade. They were also very
excited when we moved them into the upstairs bedrooms so they each have their
own room!
As for my business (Bell-Mar Publishing),
well, it did very well this year. I have a total of 5 books and working on
more!! This is the first year that I have devoted to this business alone (only
working one job for a change!). I actually did better than expected even though
Fanshawe has cut a lot of the courses I teach! I have started contracting
myself out to other companies that provide computer software training (some
were out of town!). Craig’s parents, Audrey & Alex, and my parents, Marcel
& Aline, were kind enough to let me stay at their place while I worked
in the area. Some people have come to my home (or I go to their’s) for
one-on-one training. I have also changed the covers of my books to reflect a
series called ‘Just the Basics’. I’m expecting sales to increase in the new
millennium.
Talking about the Millennium, have you any
resolutions? Any plans? Our GNO group is planning to go to Jamaica in January!
We’re also having a Y2K party to kick off the new millennium. EVERYONE’S
INVITED!!! That means you, too! (R.S.V.P.)
Anyway, we hope you enjoyed our little recap
of the year. There’s so much that happens throughout the year that it’s
difficult to mention everyone, so, we apologize if we haven’t mentioned them.
That’s all for now, until next year....
HAPPY HOLIDAYS &
BEST WISHES FOR 2000!
Love from: Diane, Craig, Lennon, Darlene,
Adam, Mason (Mystic the cat and Lady the dog)!
Hohohohohohohoho!
