Christmas Letter 1998
December 1998
Ho Ho Ho.... ‘tis that time of year again.... and once again I’m carrying out our yearly tradition for a Christmas Letter for 1998. This has been a very busy yet fun year for all of us! Many things have happened, many changes took place, and met some interesting people.
Let’s start off with last year’s New Years Eve party. As usually we all had a lot of fun and there were some extra faces that were new to the ‘Diane Crowd’ (as Pat would put it!). Marianna and Tim Baker were among those new faces. Little did we know that our paths would cross and we would end up being such wonderful friends. Marianna has joined our infamous ‘Girl’s Night Out’ group! She has shared with us her amazing talents as being an artist and sculptor.
We had purchased a new computer for my business. With most of the bells and whistles! My old computer couldn’t handle all the memory needed for the books I was writing. Yes, you heard me correctly! I had published a book.... A text book for Fanshawe College... It was designed for my students to learn from while I was teaching them in MY keyboarding class! I even got an ISBN number registered with this book! I was so excited and my boss at Fanshawe loved the idea and requested that I write more for other classes! That was such great news... since then I wrote an upgrade version and am currently writing another one called ‘Introduction to WordPerfect 8 for Windows’. I have another two more to go before the end of this year. Then I’ll be trying my hand at creating a Web page for my business ‘Bell-Mar Publishing’ so I can try to sell them on the net! COOL! I even had to send copies of my books to the Canadian National Library! Oh, I’m having SO much fun! I love it!
Another GNO member, Veronica Haas, had given birth to her second son, Collin, on February 17. Collin has an older brother called Ryan and they get along quite nicely.
This year, I had organized (what else is new) for Lilly Industries to enter the Corporate Challenge for the second year. We had a lot of fun even though we didn’t win anything. I had a bit of a hard time with any running involved because I had both feet out of commission since February (torn tendons). It still was a fun day and we enjoyed it immensely!
As far as renovations go for the house, we have finished building a second bathroom in the basement. What a relief that was when there are 6 people in the house lined up every morning waiting for the bathroom! We bought a small metal shed for storage, a metal cage for my vegetable garden so the squirrels can’t eat any of it, and lastly, Craig’s pride and joy... a deck! Now we can have some awesome deck parties.... YIPPEE!
Do you remember Mary Degan Jr.? The wiggler? Dance-o-matic? The vegan-vegetarian? Well, good ole Mary had dropped in. Back from Vancouver for just a short time, she was able to stop in for a quick visit. I mean real QUICK! It was too bad she didn’t have time to see everyone here in London but she managed to stop in and gave me the scoop on how life is treating her and her hubby on the West coast. By the way... she says ‘Hi!’ to everyone that knows her.

Craig had finally left working for Midas Muffler and had gotten a new career as an Airplane mechanic at Diamond Aircraft. He actually gets benefits and gets paid for overtime! This is such a cool job for him and he loves it much better than Midas! He still fixes cars on the weekend in our driveway, so, if you need some fixing done to your car... you know where to go for the lowest price and best work in London!

As you probably know, Craig and I got married this past summer. Of course, all the traditional things happened... a surprise Bridal shower, a stag & doe, the wedding, and the honeymoon! Our kids all had a part in the special day, as did Chuck as the Man of Honour, and Paul as the Best Man. And we had a lot of help from our friends, too! Marianna made all the bouquets and boutiniers, Troy made the cake, Veronica did my hair and sewed my accessories and Pat was the ‘official’ photographer (with the help of her sidekick, Marianna!) We were so happy to have so many friends share this day with us! It was beautiful! It brings tears to my eyes just reminiscing! We spent our honeymoon at the Idlewylde Inn on Grand Ave. We didn’t go too far because Craig didn’t have the time off since he had recently started with Diamond Aircraft. When I think back to when I first bought my house, I think that I may have had a psychic experience.... Why would I buy a 4 bedroom house for just me and Lennon? And later, why would I buy a harvest table with 6 chairs? I wasn’t even dating Craig at that time... ooOOoooOoooo! Makes you think, eh?
Two big, events happened in my family. First, Michel took his holidays in Peru this past summer. As soon as I heard, I told him (as did many other friends did) to read the ‘Celestine Prophecy’ book. He did read it but didn’t experience any insights. (too bad!) He did have a great time and he showed us his pictures of his great adventure! Secondly, my sister Carol had her second child in October! I’m an Aunt again! She now has two beauty daughters, Tara and baby Chantelle!
A few quick thoughts...
1) our two youngest boys went to camp Stevenson
2) I had Glamour shots taken of me for Craig’s birthday (they turned out quite nice too)
3) Chuck & I started making our own wine and it turn out just fine!
4) both Mason & Adam had gotten the chicken pox
5) both Adam & Darlene went up in a plane for their birthdays
6) Craig’s Aunt & Uncle from Scotland came up for a visit
7) Lennon got an electric guitar this year!
8) we got a new cat... Black & White... called Mystic (for my birthday!)
On a final note... I quit my day job at Lilly Industries! I was really putting on too much on my plate working two jobs, trying to write my books and raising a family! I had to let go of something! On the other hand, Fanshawe had requested me to write more books and gave me more hours to teach there! Now that my days have been freed up, I can write my books in peace, do a lot of baking, and have more time to listen to the children and spend more quality time with them! Now I have peace of mind and my sanity back! Life is finally starting to get normal again... but then again... what IS normal?
From all of us to all of you.... we wish you all the best for the holidays to last throughout the year! With family, friends, good food, and GREAT fun! Let’s all make this coming year the best one yet!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS & BEST WISHES FOR 1999!
Love from: Diane, Craig, Lennon, Darlene, Adam, Mason (and Mystic the cat)!
Hohohohohohohoho!
