The purposes of this music camp are to provide training for music leaders for existing churches and for new church plants, to involve the students in writing Bible Story Songs using indigenous Haitian musical styles which are used in Chronological Bible Storying, and place an emphasis on encouraging the students to use their music for outreach to non-believers.

What are the costs for the mission trip?
We estimate $250 for all your expenses IN HAITI. You may also want to bring a little extra spending money for a few souvenirs.   Your flight costs and Stateside travel expenses are in addition to this amount.   We suggest flying into Haiti on American Airlines if possible as they are the most reliable. You also are required to purchase travel insurance through the International Mission Board, which is about $2 a day.  (for a total of $20) This information can be obtained through the IMB volunteers dept.
In what kind of place will I be staying?   You will stay in a missionary guest house with running water and modern plumbing.   There are bunk beds in the rooms which accommodate 3 to 4 persons. We will eat breakfast and supper at the guest house; meals will be a mix of American and Haitian food.  Sheets and towels are furnished at the guest house. The water there is treated and drinkable.
How many people are involved in your program?   We have traditionally had around 60 to 75 students at the camp , both youth to adults.   We won't know how many will be coming in advance, though.; Many will be returning campers but some will be new.
What exactly will we be doing?    We will have choir rehearsals, lessons, and classes from after breakfast until supper, with a break for lunch around 1 pm.   We eat lunch in the dining hall with the campers.
Is there a preset program we will teach to or do we come up with our own lessons?   In choir, we will work to prepare 5 or 6 pieces for the final concert which is traditionally held on Sunday night at a church in the area. Students participate in classes such as:  music theory with sight singing and ear training. composition of Bible Story Songs, music history, handbells, lessons in voice, keyboards, other instruments, vocal techniques classes, etc.  The program is built around using music for outreach---evangelism and church planting.   We depend on the volunteers to bring their own teaching materials.   Remember, we are going to train musicians who have NO resources usually to even pay for the music camp   For example, one who is teaching beginning keyboards would bring a few elementary piano books to use with his students
What is the appropriate clothing?   You may wear tennis shoes, casual shoes, or sandals for teaching.     Cotton dresses or skirts and blouses for the women (notice women should not wear pants while teaching), and for the men lightweight sport or knit shirts, long pants (such as kackis, dockers, etc.) are appropriate wear during classes and rehearsals.  For church, and the final concert, women should bring a dress or blouse with at least a cap sleeve and the men should wear a shirt and tie.    You may bring shorts to wear in the guesthouse and for recreation.
Are there any items I should bring to make my stay easier?     Make sure you bring a flashlight with extra batteries, a personal water bottle, insect repellent, and if you wish a small fan, preferably battery operated.  If you have any comfort food items or snacks you need you may want to bring them with you.
