I grew up in S. California, and one of the
things that we did on a regular basis was go to Disneyland.
We also watched the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights.
And of course there was always the Mickey Mouse Club!

Disney was so much a part of my childhood that I can't think
of it and not think of Disney. So I HAD to include
a Disney page on my website.

Winnie the Pooh has always been my absolute favorite character,
along with all his friends. But I Love all the Disney Characters.
When I was little, the Aristocats and Lady & the Tramp were
my favorite movies. Although, I think I made my poor DAD see
Pinnochio at the drive-in about 8 times! So I would like to
dedicate this Disney page to my DAD, for all the things he
has done for me, and what he means to me! I LOVE YOU DAD!

MORE THAN A FATHER

Author: Michelle A. Bartley

When I sit and contemplate on who I am today,
I can not help but recollect on times of yesterday.
Memories of my lifetime wrapped neatly in my mind,
Small yet valued relics that could not be left behind.

Genuine fragile keepsakes, that I can touch and hold,
To others useless remnants, yet to me as fine as gold.
Treasures fine as diamonds, glistening in the light,
Protected deep inside my heart, safely out of sight.

I see a little blue-eyed girl, standing at her fathers feet,
Handing him his hammer as he toiled in the heat.
Sharing lunch amidst the dust of wood upon the ground,
Laughing as I tried to feed the toad that I had found.

Sitting on the barstool where he'd stop to have his beer,
Using up his quarters on the songs I liked to hear.
Listening to him chat with friends, my praises on his lips,
Feeling mighty special sipping pop and munching chips.

Watching scary movies on a Saturday afternoon,
Playing games of cribbage, that ended all to soon,
Going to the drive-in, just running to the store,
Skating in the winter, and wrestling on the floor.

I see a teenage girl in jeans, getting in your face,
Slamming doors, smart remarks, trying to find her place,
Smoking, drinking, running wild, wishing I was grown,
Silently sitting in her room, feeling sorry she let you down.

Deep inside retaining all the values you instilled,
Ones that grew like magic 'til my childhood was fulfilled.
Values rich with knowledge, a wisdom strong and bold,
One's to carry with me when the world got dark and cold.

Going through the good times, and the bad times too,
Always there to talk with when I didn't know what to do,
The one and constant presence, of one I could be sure,
Who's love that I could count on that always would endure.

I see a young lady dressed in white, a very nervous bride,
Walking down the aisle, with you right by my side,
Tears dammed up within your eyes, a time of letting go,
With a look of fathers pride, that seemed to shine and glow.

We danced the father daughter dance, in perfect harmony,
A waltz that's implanted in my mind, for all eternity.
You toasted to my happiness as I started my new life,
Going out into the world, your first born, now a wife.

I see a mother giving birth to a child small and sweet,
And watched you hold your grandchild, feeling so complete.
Such intense love was in your eyes, one everyone could see,
Telling me he is so beautiful, reminding you, of me.

Now as I watch my children grow, I truly understand,
All the love you've given me within your guiding hand,
The sacrifices that you made, for me throughout my life,
The burdens and the sorrows, the enjoyment and the strife.

And when I sit and contemplate on who I am today,
I can not help but recollect on times of yesterday.

All stored away within my heart, in a sanctioned place,
Untouchable by anyone, set firm in time and space.
If you believe in nothing else, on this you may depend,
You are much more than a father,
You're my true and loving friend!

For my father, who has always been there for me
throughout my life!
I LOVE YOU!
