Diana grew up in Hong Kong,
and was quite attached to the mountainous landscape of the island.
She spent many weekends on field trips drawing with other aspiring artists. One
of her favourite places was a pier, because of the wide variety of people that
passed through there. She also liked
to go to neighbouring villages to draw children playing in the streets.
After her immigration to Canada, she was very much attracted and inspired by the
beautiful sceneries of the country, and would go outdoor sketching when weather
permitted.
She primarily uses watercolour
as her medium, applying traditional styles and techniques but she is trying
acrylics and pastels as well. She
likes watercolour for its translucency and fluidity.
She paints landscapes and nature, but she is also interested in still
life and portraits.
Diana has taken courses and
workshops with many respected artists, both in Hong Kong and Toronto.
Artists Statement
"To capture the moment
and express it with my own brush strokes and colours." That is what Diana
wants to do when she decides to take up painting.
She is interested in the moments of beauty surrounding her, such as a
sweet smile, a gesture, a blooming plant, a serene moment in the village, a
scene in a hot summer or someone waiting at the pier.
That is why she enjoys outdoor sketching and life drawing.
