Diana finally answered the call to her
creative spirit and 14 years after graduating high school she drove off
into the sunset toward the State University of New York at New Paltz
where she ultimately took her Master of Fine Arts degree.
As an artist she found herself struggling with the same issues that all artists face and happened upon a situation in New York City that would inspire her to found and publish a magazine. Her new medium would be a voice to spread the word of artists being arrested in SOHO for displaying and selling their artwork on the sidewalks. There they were not only arrested, but their artwork was confiscated, destroyed, or sold in city auctions.
She herself risked arrest and with the joint efforts of other artists protesting the violations of the 1st and 14th Amendment Rights, the Supreme Court finally ruled that Art, as it is speech, is protected and the artists were no longer subject to the harsh treatment.
Beyond the political aspects of the publication, Diana’s Art&politics Magazine addressed other concerns and hit a nerve with artists all over the country. She found herself answering the phone regularly with calls from touched readers.
