THE 2001 N.A.B.A.
CHAMPION!
DENVER
DIAMONDBACKS

Wanted to give everyone time to reflect on being a CHAMPION!!!!

The Championship game was a great game by everyone. Everyone contributed and played great.  Even after leaving, I think, 7 runners on base the first two innings we didn't hang our heads and kept plugging away. I knew it was a matter of time because no one can beat us with all fastballs.  As long as we didn't beat ourselves, which we didn't, we had em.

The stats are done and Joe did a great job on the website. Thanks Ho Bob.

MVP's for the playoffs go to: Ken for coming up big in both games, getting us on board first both games. Eric for coming up HUGE in the Championship game, Shawn for showing that he IS the dominant pitcher of this league, and to everyone else for doing their part.

As for individuals, reflection and to do's in the off season and next season:

Scoot: Gold glove, 11 hits for 11 Rbi's meaning huge hits, Best defensive 1B in this league.  To Do's:  Get married (great girl) and GET HEALTHY!!

Jeff: Gold glove, .345 avg. Most at-bats. 1st Home Run in his Diamondback career, Best 2nd baseman/lead-off hitter in this league.  To Do's: Think about how you can steal more bases, rid the ring, keep smokin' em, help  Shawn with a side step to the plate.

Brad: Most steals (17), near .500 OBP, Best Shortstop in this league.  To Do's: Work on defense and need to strike out less in the 2 hole. Came back strong after a little slump, came up huge defensively in the playoffs.

Chris: Most BB's (15, hard to believe), 11 for 11 in steals (I think), 3 homers, Near .500 OBP Best fastball hitter in the league.  To Do's: Get a job. Start smokin em again, stop swinging at the curveball.

Ken: Special thanks for doing "the League thing", going to meetings, talking with them, etc... Came up huge in the playoffs.  Game winning RBI's in both games, 1st homer, got his Avg above .300 after a slow, difficult start, Best LF in the league.  To Do's: Keep Mitch swinging, don't be so hard on yourself.  Relax and see it, hit it.

Eric: Huge Championship game.  Great CF, best defensive CF in the league.  Enough stats, you guys can look them up yourself.  To Do's:  Keep smokin em, Keep swinging for the fences, less K's.

Brian: Big hits all year, Great D at many, many positions, Best Utility player in league.  To Do's: Keep smokin em, cut down on K's

James: Best all-around Catcher in the league. A bit of a down year, for his standards at the plate, but still a great year overall.  To Do: Come back strong. have a kid.

Randy: Best hitting 1b in this league. Most miles traveled. Hopefully you will be able to come back. Got new pants.  To Do's: Try and come back to play. Don't get so down on yourself.

Dave:  Great start to the year, came up big in the tournament. Sorry to see you go.  To Do's: Come back.

Shawn:  CY young, by far the best pitcher in this league. Came up HUGE when it counted most - The Championship games of the Tourney and league.  HR champion.  To Do's: work on a slide step with guys on base so James has a chance.  Keep working on that change of speeds.

And last but not least - the MVP of our team : Job Bob diMonda.  Led us in too many stats to write down, including highest ERA.  Joe coming back and being the player and friend he is helped us out tremendously. Best all around player in this league.

Special thanks go out to Joe for starting this team in 1996, Joe and Randy for coming back and making us that much better, Ken for taking control of off the field operations, and everyone else for making this a great year.

As for me. There is a good chance that I will be heading East next month if I don't have a job by end of this month. I am losing my mind not working and need to do something. My plan as of today is going to Florida for the winter months, and try to find a job.  I would like to be back in March/April, depending on job I get there and economy here.  I think I did a decent job of running this team and that everyone got plenty of playing time and were happy.  There are some things I could have done differently regarding pitching changes, line-up's etc.. But overall I think it all worked out well. That's my first ever two Championship Season. Thanks to everyone for making my life easy.

If I don't come back, you all will have to decide what you are doing.  Hopefully most of you/us will be back. I will be for sure if I am in Denver, and will try to make a point of being here.  But you never know.  If not, I would suggest that the line-up maker/Coach be someone that has the ability to be the coach and not have it affect his play.  I will make suggestions if need be.

Dave, Matt, Joe, Randy are good chances not to be back.  Not sure about rest.

Later
