Julia sniffled as she buried her face into her pillow, trying not to cry out. She wanted to cry so badly, but she knew she couldn't let herself give pity to her own self.
*^*Flashback*^*
"Ms. Pearson, the test's results are in, & the news is, you're pregnant. Congratulations. Good luck in having a very healthy & beautiful baby," her doctor, Jane Moorison, said, looking at her charts, then smiling up at her.
Julia returned her smile even though she felt nauseous. She couldn't be pregnant. Not now, she was too young! She was only 18. And now she was going to have a baby. She wasn't even with anyone anymore. She was still hurting over the fact that Matt had left her the day after their midnight tryst at the river side park. As it turned out, that had been all he wanted from the get-go. He had never loved her at all. Only wanted a good lay from her.
*^*End Flashback*^*
Now here she was, laying on her cold, lonely bed, trying not to cry. Her parents were going to kill her, her friends would all laugh at her, the kids at her Community College were definitely going to laugh at her. I'm just going to have to hurry & get the rest of my credits & leave before I start to show too much... She thought to herself, sniffling & wiping her eyes. To think I ever trusted him... How could I not see it? It was all too good to be true, but I just didn't want to believe it. No. I wanted to believe that someone like Matt Marshburk could actually like me. Me... A complete loser. Why did I let myself be fooled like that?
Next to her on the bed stand, the phone rang & she reached over, picking it up. "Hello?"
"Hey, is Julia there?" a familiar voice came on the line.
"Hey Ash. What's up?"
"Oh nothing much...just bored. Called to see how my chica was doing."
"Your chica is doing awful... She also just found out the worst news of the century..."
"Did my baby Justin die?!"
Julia pulled the phone away from her ear when Ashley started to scream. Not hearing her start her usual rant, Julia cautiously held the phone to her ear. "No Ash... As far as I know & don't care, Justin's alive & living. Too bad he's not single or I'm sure you'd have fun trying to track him down."
"Chica, I will make him forget all about that bimbo Tonya," Ashley giggled. "So, what's this bad news?"
"Remember what I told you Matt & I did about 2 months ago?"
"Yea?"
"And about he left me the day after?"
"Uh-huh..." A silence filled the line before Ashley finally said, "Girl ... You're not ... Are you?"
"Yea..." Julia couldn't help it when her voice cracked. She quickly pulled herself together to avoid crying on the phone.
"Oh my gosh girl! Does he know?"
"No, I just found out today. God what am I going to do? I'm going to be a single, just-missed-teenage-years mom... And the kid's never going to know his father. Oh god, what am I going to do?"
"Maybe you should tell your mom & dad..."
"I know... But what am I going to do about money? I can't even get a job because mom & dad can't spare the car to me. You know I have to get to school by cab even... Oh god Ashley... I'm so dead..."
"Why don't I come on over with some ice cream & a Wesley Snipes movie or two? I'll make sure they're your faves."
"Sure..."
"I know you want Blade in there, so name another one."
"Passenger 57?"
"Okay. See you soon girl. Oh yeah, what flavor you want?"
"Just surprise me. Just no plain ones..."
"Gotcha. See you in twenty."
"Okay. Bye chica."
"Byes!"
Julia hung up the phone & turned over, almost falling off the bed, stopping herself so she could stand up. Once she was up, she walked out of her room, walking downstairs to wait for Ashley to get to her house.
