Session 9 [18 march 2005]: (...continued)

The party prepared to go down the stairs to a new dungeon level however ogden the tavern keeper kept them with his tale.  He told them that he heard noises outside his tavern and when he peered out he saw a band of small demons.  The weird thing he saw made him bewildered.  The demons took off his signpost of the inn.  For whatever reasons he could not find a plausible one!  He asked the adventurers to investigate this queer attitude, maybe it could lead to something much more deep.

The party descends into the fourth level of the catacombs below the monastery, in to the entrance (a).  Lysander sees as book-stand and goes to read the book.  Entitled "The realms beyond" the book emits evil power to whoever reads it however the cleric resists its evil grasp.  Going 'round the staircase, they can see some razor spines in the next room (b) through the metal bars dividing the rooms.  Immediately sadak shoots with his magical longbow and hits one of them.  The fighter moves up to the door and opens it for the barbarian to rush in and strikes.  Blog goth loses no time and steps in the room, bringing down his vicious handaxe upon the demonic beasts.  Immediately he cleaves down two of them to death while the third one is badly injured.  In retaliation, a couple of razor spines hit the barbarian, injuring him moderately.  Suddenly one of them, appearing stronger and somewhat bigger, called Spine-eater, shoots his spines too at the barbarian, hitting him slightly. Lysander strikes through the bars and hits one of the razor spines.  The sorcerer casts on himself mage armour and steps behind the fighter, as magnus tries to strike down spine-eater.  The barbarian continues his killing spree, killing another of the demonic beasts and injuring another.  Move spines fly around the barbarian wounding him badly.  Seeing this, the cleric casts divine favour onto himself to enhance himself in preparation for melee combat.  The fighter attacks the leader again, hitting him this time.  Blog goth hits another razor spine and steps back out of the room.  In the meantime, the fighter finishes off the injured razor spine.  As another tries to shoot him, the fighter hits it with his weapon.  Suddenly a burning skeleton appears, Blacklash the burning!  The cleric immediately cast sound burst in the middle of the small room where the creatures are, injuring them all, killing one of them immediately and stunning them.  Only the skeleton remained unaffected by the stun.  Sadak who spent some time casting his flurry of arrows spell upon his longbow shoots, but this arrows miss their target.  The fighter hits again spine-eater.  The barbarian, safe for a short period of time, took the opportunity to drink down a healing potion, restoring some of his health back.  The cleric kills another razor spine and sadak shoots a magical missile on the burning skeleton.  Suddenly a roar echoed throughout the chamber as the barbarian flew into a terrible rage, hitting spine eater injuring it badly.  The fighter hits one of the razor beasts.  One of the demonic beasts shoot the barbarian, wounding him slightly more, while suddenly a searing light glowed from the cleric as he struck at Blacklash the burning.  The skeleton reeled from the magical hit.  Sadak steps sideways and fire leapt from his burning hands, incinerating both spine-eater and a razor spine to death.  The barbarian then steps behind the skeleton, taking out his flail in the process.  He swung the weapon and crushes it into the skeleton.  The skeleton could not resist the blow and his bones burst out under the mighty blow.  The barbarian also hit a razor spine in his attack, squishing him dead too.  The fighter turns and strikes down the last remaining razor demon.  The barbarian goes out of his rage, resting from his fatigue.  Among the butchered remains the fighter finds 148 gp and 144 gp, sadak pockets 104 gp and 140 gp and blog goth finds 104 gp and 136 gp.  The cleric picks up a magical light crossbow which was hanging on the back of the skeleton.

Session 10 [1 April 2005]:

The adventurers make their way up to the village, to gather back their health and repair their weapons.  Deckard cain tells them that the magical light crossbow they found was indeed a monk's light crossbow.  Back down in the dungeons blog goth opens the door (c) to find some moon clan waiting inside.  He immediately steps in and slashes a moon clan to death and injures another.  The cleric hits and wounds another moon clan which immediately retaliates and attacks lysander, hitting him slightly.  From behind them, sadak shoots a bolt into one of the demon goats, but it was the fighter who finished both of them.  From one of the cadavers, blog goth picked up 148 gp.  In another room (d), the party are confronted by some burning dead.  Among the ranks of the undead, madeye the dead waited for the adventurers to attack.  Blog goth advanced taking out his flail.  He swings it into a burning dead, while from behind him, sadak rained missiles upon madeye.  The skeletons immediately surround the barbarian but he defended well himself.  From the doorway, magnus hits the wounded skeleton a couple of times but it still resisted the blows.  Lysander stepped in the room taking out his morning star.  Immediately he swings it at the beaten skeleton, crushing it to dust.  The barbarian close his distance upon madeye, beating him with his flail a couple of times.  Another missile exploded into the giant skeleton but it resisted all the attacks, ignoring the injuries sustained.  Madeye stepped back and swung his weapon hitting the barbarian slightly.  At the doorway, magnus hits another skeleton with his glaive.  Suddenly a searing light filled the room as a bright glow leapt from the cleric's hands crushing straight into the giant skeleton.  Madeye exploded in a whirl of agonizing screams.  Blog goth turns and strikes at the skeleton, however the flail passed dangerously close, missing the target.  The sorcerer casts a mage armor upon himself and then he shot straight into the burning dead skeleton which was engaged with the fighter.  Magnus, in the meantime was locked a battle with a burning dead, however in an attack he damaged slightly his glaive while in another he kills the skeleton, but not before witnessing a mighty attack from the barbarian who wounded badly the skeleton.  After downing madeye, the cleric engages the last skeleton in another fight, hitting him with his morning star.  Blog goth wastes no time in giving the last skeleton a blow, but it was magnus again who finished off the job.  Among the bones and dust the cleric found 132gp.

The whole party then moved to another door.  Opening it, they found themselves face to face with devil kin (e).  Blog goth immediately moved inside behind a column to cover a corner.  Sadak used the powers of his scorch spell to finish off 3 of the devil kin immediately.  As the small demons advance, the barbarian immediately downs the first one within range.  Another devil kin fell under the blade of the cleric while magnus kills another 2 with his glaive.  On the other side of the room, the barbarian kills off another of the imp demons.  Shooting a crossbow bolt, sadak wounds mortally one of the remaining devil kin, with magnus finishing it off.  Lysander killed off the last devil kin to clear the room.  Among the remains, magnus found 172 gold pieces, sadak found a morning star and 136 gp, the cleric picked up another morning star and a magical bastard sword.  Blog goth found 272 gold pieces from 2 different corpses.  In a coffin the barbarian found 226 gp, while one of the chests exploded in the fighter's face, injuring him slightly.

Exploring deeper the dungeon they soon find themselves confronted by a couple plague bearers (f).  Sadak retreats to a tactical position, with magnus joining him.  The plague bearers immediately attacked the barbarian but narrowly missed.  The cleric retreated too, with the barbarian joining his friends soon after.  Immediately, the plague bearers followed the heroes.  However the narrow corridor (g) was a death trap for them.  As the first zombie approached the gleaming glaive of the fighter, he was attacked, magnus wounding him slightly.  The other plague bearer followed, however sadak was prepared for them.  He let out a stream of lightning, injuring one of them.  The rotting zombies attack lysander, injuring him.  The cleric responded with a spell, however it failed to be of any effect.  The barbarian hit one of the plague bearers, and magnus followed suite with a double hit.  Sadak cast another spell, scorching the rotting flesh of the front zombie, killing him instantly.  This gave enough time for the cleric to bestow a curse upon the remaining plague bearer.  At this point the barbarian flew into a mad rage however failed to hit his target.  The zombie hit the cleric again however magnus closed in and drove his glaive into it.  The plague bearer was evidently at the point of death.  A bolt from sadak's crossbow took out the spark of the undead's miserable life.

Session 11 [15 April 2005]:

The adventurers move up to the town to repair their damaged weapons and heal.  Deckard cain identified the magical bastard sword as a rusted bastard sword.  Back to the dungeon they soon form tactically behind a closed door, prepared to strike down any minion behind it.  However, when blog goth opened the door, they found a single harmless-looking fallen one (h).  He seemed badly shaken.  he immediately begins to tell them about the tavern sign.  He said that some demons stole "his" sign and he wants it back.  Suddenly they realize the quest for the tavern sign is taking a different direction.

Heading to the west part of the dungeon (i), the adventurers ran into some moon clan demons.  Immediately blog goth attacks one of them, hitting it hard with his axe, while the mage started to cast a magical armor upon himself.  From the corner Lysander starts to mutter the words of a summoning spell.  Three of the goat demons take out battle axes however the other two retreat to a corner and shoot the barbarian.  However none hit him.  Seeing his comrade in grave danger, the fighter rushed in the room and attacked one of the demons with bows.  The barbarian finished off the injured moon clan while cleaving his way into another demon, wounding it too.  The mage suddenly stepped forward and shouted out loud.  Fire leapt form his burning hands straight towards the moon clan, immediately burning a couple of them to death.  A blinding light suddenly lighted the dark room and a celestial hippogriff materialized!  It immediately clawed the first demon it saw in front of it.  The cleric moved in too, hitting one of the demons in the head, badly wounding him.  Sweeping with his glaive, Magnus slashed the last remaining two demons killing them instantly.  Searching among the corpses blog goth found 165 gold while magnus pocketed 120 gp.  In a chest, the barbarian found 87 gp while in some barrels he found a hand crossbow, while lysander discovered hidden a short spear.  Magnus found 52gp in another barrel  and sadak found a kukri in another.  In the corner, cowering with fright, the adventurers found Gharbad the weak who told them that he'll make a weapon for them if they let him live!

In the adjacent room (J) there was a bookstand.  Immediately lysander cast detect magic and as the book glowed faintly red the adventurers understood that there was magic at hand.  he read it slowly and told us that it was a third in a compilation of books, entitle "The dark exile".

Continuing deeper into the dungeon, the party immediately enter a chamber (k) full of gloom-bats.  Immediately magnus rushes in the room and hits one of the pack leaders, moonbender.  The demonic bats surround the barbarian, however he avoided all their attacks.  The fighter hit the other pack leader, wRathraven.  The barbarian hit ratraven too, then moved aside to allow the sorcerer to cast his spells onto the demons.  As some moon clan appeared from the shadows, sadak immediately scorched a couple of them to death.  In retaliation, the other 2 moon clan loaded their bows with arrows and shot the mage.  The cleric, knowing the bitter experience the party had before against the demon bats cast upon himself a lightning resistance spell.  On the other side of the room, the barbarian kill of one of the bats while sadak cast another scorch, this time hitting both bat leaders, wounding them badly.  The moon clan shoot the sorcerer again but he dodged their arrows, while lysander tried to cast searing light but failed to finish off the spell incantation.  The fighter kills off ratraven and injures another bat.  The sorceror cast another spell, this time a cone of fire engulfed the room.  One of the bats and the last remaining two moon clan fell dead to the ground, burnt.  Only moonbender was left to face off the four valiant heroes.  The barbarian immediately hit it with his axe, but it hit him back injuring him slightly.  But  the cleric soon made a quick job out of the demon.  Among the remains magnus found a potion of rejuvenation, which he immediately gave to lysander, sadak found 164gp, the cleric pocketed 156 gp.  Blog goth stooped down to pick a kukri from a body.

After the encounter they went over to Gharbad the weak.  He seemed really delighted that they let him live, giving them a magical buckler in return.

Going back to Tristram deckard cain told them that the buckler was indeed a pyrite buckler.

Session 12 [22 April 2005]:

Back down to the dungeon, the adventurers examine another room (L).  Lysander looked inside a chest but it exploded in his face, hurting him slightly.  In another room (m), the party finds itself confronted by a couple of plague bearers.  Immediately sadak shoots a fireball into them, injuring them slightly.  The fireball burnt down a coffin and a chest which were in the room.  Magnus attacked from a distance with his glaive, hitting one of the zombies.  Both plague bearers advance and attack the barbarian but he managed to avoid their rotting hands.  Suddenly from lysander's hands a white light was forming, however his searing light failed to materialize.  Blog goth didn't hesitate to retaliate and the steel of his axe hit the rotting flesh of the zombies.  However they still resisted the attacks.  It was sadak who brought down the first one of them, by firing a magical missile into them.  The fighter attacked again with his glaive, finishing off the last zombie after a couple of hits.  Among the remains Sadak picked up a magical wand.

Clearing out the room, they continue their search for the tavern sign.  Entering a small room (n), a giant humanoid blocks their path.  The giant, a blunderbore immediately hit the barbarian, knocking him back.  The mage cast onto himself his mage armor when he saw the barbarian, whilst raging being knocked back again by the huge mutant.  Lysander form a distant cast onto the monster a bestow curse, weakening it.  The fighter attacked him but missed.  The blunderbore struck at magnus but the fighter skillfully dodged his attack.  Lysander rebuked the huge form and stunned it for some seconds, enough time for sadak to let out a dragon's breath of lightning, shocking the entire form.  Magnus brought down his glaive in a couple of successful attacks but it was the enraged barbarian who brought the giant creature down.

They continued their search, entering another room (o).  This time there were two of the blunderbore.  Wasting no time, magnus bashes one of them with his glaive.  The barbarian moves back to clear the room for a devastating spell from Sadak.  Immediately the sorcerer cast a fireball straight into the blunderbores, injuring them badly.  The giants move in to attack the barbarian, one of them hitting blog goth, almost killing him.  However the barbarian resisted and joined the fighter to attack the giant forms.  Behind them, lysander was casting a summon spell, trying to summon a lion in aid.  The fighter slashes at the first blunderbore, downing him for good, while deeply wounding the last one.  Enraged, the barbarian hit the blunderbore with his axe and cut him down.  Lying in the middle of the room there was the tavern sign.  Magnus also picked up 120 gold from one of the blunderbore.  Searching in some barrels in an adjacent room, magnus found a staff, lysander found 16 gp, the barbarian picked up a heavy pick whilst the mage's barrel blew up injuring him slightly.

Carrying the sign, they go back to where they found the harmless-looking fallen one.  As soon as his hands fell on the sign he cried out aloud and the wall vanished revealing a secret room (p)!  We walked straight into a trap.  Immediately sadak let out one of his powerful fireballs, killing instantly 17 of the dark ones!  Soon after the flames vanished, blog goth rushed inside the room aiming for the leader, snotspill.  His axe made clean work of the fallen one, and butchering another one.  Magnus followed suite, killing another dark one instantly and deeply wounding the last one.  Sadak finished the last one off scorching him to death!  Among the pile of cadavers, Lysander found 160 gp and 168 gp, sadak a battle bow, and blog goth found 124gp, 168 gp and a magical short staff.

The party then decided to head back to Tristram.  Deckard cain revealed the magical wand as being a Wand of Ease and the staff as White short staff.  The barbarian then bought a glaive to compliments his arsenal of weapons...

Session 13 [29 April 2005]:

They go in a new room (q) with some Devil kin and thorn beasts.  Magnus immediately finishes off one of the demons, and then a second one.  Sadak put down another two with his burning hands.  Blog goth makes a move and attacks a thorn beast.  However he misses and damages slightly the blade of his vicious axe.  The creatures all turn to attack the barbarian but fail to injure him.  Magnus kills one of the thorn beasts while a magic missile slams into a couple of devil kin, killing them both.  Attacking one of the beasts again, blog goth damages his axe again but wounds a beast when he attacks a second time.  Lysander finishes off a devil kin.  The remainder turn their attention towards the barbarian but he shrugs off their attacks while magnus wounds another thorn beast.  A crossbow bolt sings past lodging itself into the body of a beast.  Blog goth marks his first kill of the day by killing a thorn beast but breaks the hand axe in the process.   Lysander kills another dark one and on the other side of the room, magnus damages his glaive while wounding another thorn beast.  Sadak saw his friends in danger and put another bolt to his crossbow but the trigger mechanism failed for an instant!  It got slightly damaged!  Surely they felt this wasn't a good day for them.  As the last thorn beast faced blog goth, the barbarian, empty handed tried to smash his fist onto the beast.  However the beast attacked first but got impaled onto the spikes of the barbarian's leather armor.  They search among the corpses, magnus finding a buckler, the barbarian finds 144 gold and sadak finds a further 120 gold and a falchion which he immediately gives to the barbarian.  Lysander picks up a light hammer.  In a coffin the fighter picks up 210 gold and the barbarian takes a studded leather off a corpse.

Walking deeper into the dungeon they come upon a room with a shrine in it (r).  From the darkness devil kin materialized but sadak was prepared with his spell.  His burning hands  killed on of them, injuring all others.  The remaining 4 surround the mage and start to attack him but magnus finishes them off all by himself.  Lysander went up to the shrine and upon touching it he felt the magical effect of a religious shrine passing through him.  Sadak picked up 165 gold from a cadaver, the fighter took a cloak of another and lysander found a short staff.
