Competences |
Evidence (Beginning of the semester) |
Evidence (End of the semester) |
|
1. Knowledge of
the central concepts, tools of inquiry and structures of the Elementary school Content Area
disciplines he or she teaches and can create learning experiences that make
these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students.
Standard # 1 |
From taking a class last
semester, I had to learn how to develop activities that adhered to state and
national learning standards. |
I have developed lesson plans
which include activities that are developmentally appropriate for the given
grade level and through making several of these I have become more
comfortable at lesson plan making and more knowledgeable about the standards |
|
2. The teacher
understands how children learn and develop, and can provide learning
opportunities that support a child’s intellectual, social, and personal
development. Standard # 2 |
I understand that is important
to have a variety of activities in the classroom to engage learners from all
backgrounds. They would have to touch
down on different aspects of learning such as visual and audio. |
Even more so than at the
beginning of the semester, I have become much more proficient with my ability
to adapt learning opportunities that support children’s intellectual and
social development |
|
3. The teacher
understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates
instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners. Standard # 3 |
From tutoring and subbing, I
learned that different kids learn at different speeds and in different
ways. I’ve had to modify how I
presented or taught information so that particular student could comprehend
the information. |
Field work has given me a glimpse
into the complexity of the learning process of a child. It is difficult sometimes to teach a child
but part of the fun of teaching is figuring out ways to convey an idea in a
sometimes unconventional forum |
|
4. The teacher understands and
uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage student development
of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills. Standard # 4 |
N/A |
As mentioned above, part of the fun
of teaching is inventing ways to convey an idea and get into the head of a
child and configure a way to teach them something |
|
5. The teacher uses an understanding of
individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment
that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning,
and self motivation. Standard # 5 |
It’s important to let students
know how they are doing throughout the day so they may modify their efforts
and do better. Also,
behavior/classroom management is required to monitor interactions between to
ensure they are positive. |
Field work has given me the
opportunity to observe behavior and behavior management and how it is
addressed by the cooperating teacher |
|
6. The teacher uses knowledge of
effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to foster
active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the
classroom. Standard # 6 |
I understand the importance of
introducing and using technological media into the classroom to help
supplement lessons and topics. |
I have used the computer and the
internet since both offer a plethora of information and resources to better
my teaching skills |
|
7. The teacher plans instruction
based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and
curriculum goals. Standard
# 7 |
N/A |
Through lesson plan development,
I have learned about different subject matter. Each lesson plan was covered different
subjects enabling me to be flexible with subject matter |
|
8. The teacher understands and
uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the
continuous intellectual, social, and physical development of the learner. Standard #8 |
N/A |
Through tools taught to me
throughout this course, I have learned how to evaluate and assess the
required elements |
|
9. The teacher is a reflective
practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his or her choices and
actions on others (students, parents, and other professionals in the learning
community) and who actively seeks out opportunities to grow
professionally. Standard # 9 |
Subbing can be very difficult
as far as establishing a rapport with students. I try to use what has worked in the past
and not what resulted in chaos in future classroom situations. |
I still practice the same
philosophy in the classroom and I’m hyper-conscious about my methods and the
results of those methods in the classroom |
|
10. The teacher fosters relationships with
school colleagues, parents, and agencies in the larger community to support
students’ learning and well-being. Standard # 10 |
I constantly sought advice on
how to best help students learn. |
