| Artist Bio Margy is an emerging contemporary Aboriginal artist and writer and her works are increasing in popularity. Margys artwork is spiritually and meditationally inspiring and flows with the passion of ancestral voices. Her style is beautiful and unique and provides the viewer with powerful connections to the Dreaming. Margy, A member of the Stolen Generations, was born in Paddington NSW in 1968 to an Aboriginal/Maori mother, whom herself had been taken from her own mother in the early 1950's. Her mother being taken to Cootamundra Girls Home, the brothers to Kinchela Boys Home. Margy grew up in Leura, Blue Mountains with her adopted family of 7, totally unaware of the fact that she was Aboriginal. After a family move to Bathurst (country NSW), she suddenly had an awareness of being different and indeed was treated as an outsider. At the stormy age of 13, the Department of Welfare finally told her of her Aboriginality. Information that plunged her into a spiral of chaos and a fight for identity that would last to this day. 2006 was a year of "homecoming" for Margy. After years of searching for her Aboriginal family, and fighting the many conflicting emotions that walk hand in hand with dispossession and a stolen identity, Margy, along with her husband Bryan and her children "Came Home" to her ancestral lands of the "DHUNGUTTI"... and was welcomed into the lives of her Aboriginal family at Kempsey and South West Rocks Mission. What a day for truth and healing! Margy paints from her spirit, from her soul and from her heart. Though her connection to her people had been severed all those years, her spiritual connection remained strong, and its from that spirit that she paints now. Margy encourages each viewer to discover the interpretation in each painting that is relevant to them on a personal level and to their own life and life journey. Margy lives with her husband and 4 of their 5 children in Canberra, Australia Margy wishes to thank Mundara and his wife Yvon, for their mentoring and contributions |
