The Herbie Hotel seems to be doing great! It opened on Friday, February 26, 1999. It is part of Disney's new All-Stars Resort. It will consist of several buildings. Each building has it's own theme. Some of them are 101 Dalmatians, The Mighty Ducks, and of course, Herbie. The resort is at Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida. The front of the Herbie building has the front of a six-times-real-size Herbie front end. The other side has a six-times-real-size Herbie rear end. They are both pretty accurate. On the sides, there are big tools. One of the six-time-real-size tools is a wrench, like the one Jim Douglas used in the first movie when he was working on Herbie. There is a slight problem. There is a regular-sized Herbie car, but it not all correct.
{Here is what this part originally said, when there were pics of this car under construction: The regular sized Herbie car is wrong. It has eyes and has stripes and 53's like the 1997 movie. It is too dark in the shade of white. It's WORSE than the 1997 movie.} Well now that it's on permanent (?) display, it's somewhat better. It still has wrong 53's and stripes, but the sunroof cover is darker and the stripes run OVER it, which is better than the 1997 movie. It still has eyes, but it looks better than it did. People sent LOTS of mail to help Disney realize the importance of a tradition, via Dave (the link to his great Website is above)! He said that the Herbie was trashed, probably by local teenagers. This certain car was used in Herbie on Ice. For more info and pics, go to Dave's site. Keep your eyes open for updates!
