The Webmastering class at HSHP can serve to fulfill the technology credit need for graduation or it can serve as an elective credit it a student has already fulfilled the technology credit. The class is a product-based class for activity and assessment. We will learn about the languages of HTML, XHTML, CSS and Javascript. Students will learn to code webpages by in hand using software called Notepad++ and they will also learn to build and organize websites using design software called Microsoft Frontpage

Classroom Rules:

  1. The students will come to class prepared with paper and pencil/pen and any material required for the project they are working on.
  2. Students need to be in the classroom before the tardy bell rings. The School Tardy Policy is in the student TimeTracker.
  3. Before leaving class, students will be expected to pick up and dispose of any trash in and around their work areas, shutdown their computers and push their chairs in neatly.
  4. Students should not plagiarize items from the internet or from other students.
  5. Working on assignments for another class is not allowed unless granted by the teacher.
  6. All assignments should be handed in on time.
  7. The students will treat others with respect and courtesy. When doing group activities in the classroom, it is important that each student listen and always keep the volume of discussions and computer media at an acceptable level.

Textbook: we do not have a textbook for this course. We do, however, use many wonderful internet resources which are available

Class Website: http://www.geocities.com/dhshpwebmaster/cycle1.html

Materials:

  1. Each student should have a class notebook and a folder or binder for organizing returned papers
  2. I have a classroom set of pen drives (a.k.aflash drives, thumb drives, USB portable drives) for students to save their projects when it is time to grade them. I recommend that each student purchase a pen drive to backup their work on a regular basis. The computer lab is used by many teachers and students in the school. Backing-up data is the only way to help protect the student from losing their work. The pen drive should NOT be an MP3 player.
  3. Having a computer and internet at home will be helpful, but will not be required.
  4. Any donations of facial tissue and paper towels will be greatly appreciated.

Grading Procedures:

The final grade a student receives will be calculated as follows:

Major grades (including, but not limited to, projects, tests and quizzes) will make up 65% of the overall grade for the cycle. Daily grades will make up the remaining 35% of the cycle averages. (Note: Some projects will need to be handed in on pen drives/disks and others will be uploaded to the internet.)

Make-up work:

Any student missing a class must bring an official permit to the class for a teachers signature within 3 days of returning to school. Students are responsible for the work they miss when absent from class for any reason. It is wise to contact 2 classmates to find out what you have missed. Students who are absent on the day an assignment is given will have three school (calendar) days to make up the work. Students who are absent on the day an assignment is due or test is given must be prepared to complete the assignment/test the day they return to school. The teacher reserves the right to give extensions, in writing, for students with extended illnesses or emergencies, on a case-by-case basis. Extensions will not be given for lack of organization or planning on the part of the student (inkless printers, forgotten materials, last minute realizations that you need help, etc.) Do not put any work in the teachers mailbox, under the classroom door, on the teachers desk unless told to do so.

Tutoring:

The teacher is available daily, but appointment, for tutoring before school 7:15 a.m. 7:45 a.m. and at B lunch. The school also offers Title I tutorials after school from 3:25 p.m. 4:25 p.m. Students can go to any of the participating teachers they wish, but must be in the room for tutoring by 3:25 p.m. Ms. Winkler will be tutoring in the afterschool program. The days of availability will be announced and posted.

Extra Credit:

There are no opportunities for individual extra credit in this class.

>Progress Reports:

Progress reports will be given to all students during the beginning of the 4th week of each 6 weeks. Students who have a number of missing homework assignments or who have not returned their signed progress report and their grade is less than a 75, will receive multiple progress reports for that cycle.
