| The members of Conservatory Jazz play in various formations, depending on availability of personnel and customer preference. We can provide solo piano, piano/bass duo, piano/instrument duo, trio, quartet and quintet formations. Our trio formation, with either trumpet or saxophone, continues to be our most commonly requested formation. Short biographical remarks about the members of the group are provided below. | Past Venues: Formed in 2003, the members of Conservatory Jazz have performed in many venues in San Francisco, inlcuding the Palace Hotel, the Merchant Exchange Building, the Ferry Building, the UC Berkely Faculty Club, the Concordia Club, San Francisco Towers, the Broadmoor Hotel, and many others. We have provided music for notable customers such as Folger, Levin & Kahn, the comittee to elect Gavin Newsom, and the US Marines. |
| *Member Biographies: Dana Howell: Group organizer, pianist, saxophonist and clarinetist, Dana Howell graduated in 2004 with a masters degree in composition, and in 2002 from Carnegie Mellon University with degrees in both performance and composition. Ian Dickenson: Ian plays upright bass, and holds a Bachelors degree in performance from Sonoma State University and a masters degree in composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Alden Cohen: Bassist Alden Cohen is a graduate of San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he earned a Masters degree in performance in 2003. He also studied at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, MD. Joseph Mace: Vocalist Joseph Mace studed at Tulane University in New Orleans before earning a Master of Music degree at the San Francisco Conservatory. His background includes concentrated study of the Broadway repertoire and opera. Erik Jekabson: Eric Jekabson, trumpet, is a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and has performed as a jazz musician in many venues in New Orleans and New York City. A native to the Bay Area, he is currently taking a leave of absence from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music to tour with John Mayer. * Occassionally, other musicians, all reliable and of high caliber, may be sub-contracted to perform with the group. |
