Sunday January 12, 2003Dear Farouk,
On my way to mail this letter I have sent a fax to Andrea Quarantillo the district INS Director to demand your release.
Just as I will be shortly writing to Rabih Haddad, I write to you in prison. He is in prison in Monroe, Michigan and has a good little defense committee in Ann Arbor, where we just went to the anniversary of his arrest on charges of being head of an Islamic charity.
I read the article Rojer Calero and Martin Koppel wrote on your case in the Militant. I especially identify with you since I, too, was for a time active in the Palestine Aid Society. It is outrageous that you were an outspoken “explainer” of the Palestine issue on the radio and at other public events and were then raided and charged with deportation.
Can I send you anything to read in prison? Anything you may feel like reading, I could send to you. We could start out with something non-political, just to see if you COULD receive books in prison.
Of course, I hope that you will be out soon. Prison is an inhuman place. It is important to get out into the fresh air of freedom immediately,
In sympathy,

Denis Hoppe
