| To get to the Detroit Institute of Arts from the Airport you will need $1.75 for a bus ticket on SMART and a transfer. Same for coming back. You can enter the galleries of the Detroit Institute of Arts Free, without paying the voluntary $7.00 ticket. These bus tours work, if you have time between an early morning flight into the new Detroit Terminal or the old terminal, and have a late afternoon flight out of the terminal. 1. Take the free "Terminal to Terminal" Shuttle from the regional transportation door of the new Northwest World Gateway Macnamara terminal to the old LC Smith Terminal. 2. Go down the escalater to ground level and wait at the shelter for the SMART bus to come to the LC Smith Terminal. 3. Take the SMART bus "285 Middlebelt Road-Rorhard Lake to Michigan Avenue. (Watch out! This SMART bus doesn't run on Sundays.) Buy a regular ticket with a transfer(cost: $1.75) 4. Wait at the SMART bus stop on Michigan Ave. in front of the Gas Station. Board the SMART "Michigan 200" bus when it comes and ask the conductor to validate your transfer to transfer to the Woodward bus in Detoit. 5. When the Michigan 200 arrives at Kennedy Square in Cadillac Square, get off and walk across Woodward to where the old Hudson's building was and board the Woodward 53, a D-DOT green, yellow and white bus. Your tranasfer will now be taken. 6. Get off at the stop opposite the front steps of the Detroit Institute of Arts and enter by the doors on the side. Allow about 2hours of Bus time each way for this excursion. OTHER EXCURSIONS: A. To the Parkman Branch of the Detroit Public Library, where the International Collection is. 1. Transfer to the D-DOT Linwood Route 29 at Michigan Avenue and Trumbull and get off at Linwood and Oakman. B. To the Pathfinder Bookstore in Mexican Town. 1. Get off the Michigan 200 at Wyoming and wait half an hour for the Wyoming south to transfer to it. 2. Ask the Wyoming bus driver to validate your transfer to the Vernor at Ford Gate 2 3. Board the Vernor at Ford Gage 2 and go through the Arabian Village(mosque and stores) and Mexican town to Clark Park, where the bookstore is or continue on to the Greyhound Bus Station at Bagley with this bus if you want to get to the Greyhound Bus Station or King's Books, the great used Bookstore. |
