The touring exhibition, "A Community Between Two Worlds: Arab Americans in Greater Detroit." A exhibition produced by the Michigan State University Museum and the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services(ACCESS), in collaboration with the Detroit Historical Museum.

Special Programs at the Detroit Historicall Museum:

March 27-29 A three-day academic conference, supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, wil persent research on Arab Americans in Detroit with discussions of lliterary and culltural traditions.

Saturday, April 18 A showing of the award-winning video, "Tales from Arab Detroit" at 2 pm in the Louise C. Booth Auditorium followed by discussion. (the video is available from ACCESS, 2651 Saulino Ct., Dearborn, MI 48120, or mailing and payments service through me at [email protected])

Sunday, May 3 Children's Story Hour in the Loiuse C. Booth Auditorium featuring Arab folk tales with Dalal Awad Alzoubi and Alexandra Kalaydjian.

Saturday, May 16 Arab music and musical instrument demonstration for children and young adults at 2p.m. in the Louise C. Booth Auditorium.

Saturday, June 6 Poetry reading by Saldin Ahmed and Allise Alousi at 2p.m. in the Louise C. Booth Auditorium. The work of these two gifted young poents speaks to the experiences of growing up both Arab and American.

Sunday, June 14 A Henna Design Workshop at 2p.m. Henna is a form of temporary tattooing used throughout the Arab World. Come learn to mix this natural dye and make your own tattoos. All ages welcome.

Sunday, June 28 Dance/Debkeh Workshop at 2p.m. Learn this group dance style popular in many Arab countries. All ages welcome.

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the mass dispossession of the Palestinian community, the Henry Ford Centennial Library, in cooperation with the Michigan Committee on Jerusalem, is hosting this moving photo exhibition which documents the last 50 years of Palestinian struggle. A Vigil: 50 Years of Palestinian Dispossession

Rally and Quilt Unveiling: Commemorating the 418 Arab Villages Destroyed in 1948
Saturday, May 30, 11 am-6 pm.

Join us for an afternoon of events to commemorated the Palestinians who lost their homes in 1948. A March from Grand Circus Park, along Woodward, to Hart Plaza, begins at noon (assembly begins at 11 am). A rally featuring well known speakers will be held in Hart Plaza at the end of the march, and then participants will move to the adjacent Cobo Hall to view the unveiling of the Quilt of Palestinian Embroidery currently on tour throughout the US.
