Arabic on the computer is still in its infancy. Arabic has to be put on the internet as a picture so it takes up a lot of space. As text, it takes up less space, but you must have Arabic fonts to read it. Have you got some from Apple or MS Arabic Windows? or Windows 95 English Sakhr Arabic beta plug-in for Netscape Communicator 4? Go to a sample of Arabic text on the internet to see Arabic HTML text..

Alphabet

It's a good idea to learn to recite the Arabic alphabet in order. This will help you using the dictionary later on.

Unusual sounds, No-verb-to-be & Questions

It's a good idea to start right off using a lot of the words that have sounds that we don't have in English, like the sound I write as a single-stroke quotation mark--' -- the 'ain. It sounds like the sound a camel makes when it strains to get up and going.

And it's also a good idea to use the simple sentence (without the verb to be) a lot, with questions and answers.

For example. What is this? = Shu hatha? Shu means "what". Hatha means "this."

Or, for example: This is a spoon = Hatha ma'laqa. Hatha means "this." Ma'laqa means "spoon"
