Dublin Planning and Zoning Board

Dear Board Members:

The Dublin Historic Neighborhood Association opposes the rezoning of both 402 Ramsey Street from R-1 to R-4 and 709 Euclid Avenue from R-1 to Professional Business.

Our association met on January 30, 2005 at 3:00 PM at the Laurens County Library and unanimously voted to oppose both rezoning requests.  Our organizations membership is drawn from the area in and around Woodrow, Highland, Bellevue and Stonewall.

The purpose of our association is to maintain and preserve the historic and residential integrity of our neighborhood.  The Stubbs Park--Stonewall Street Historic District is officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This district has been a long standing, residential neighborhood since the 1920s and 1930s.  At present, families are moving into the community and rezoning for apartments or professional business would most certainly make the neighborhood substantially less desirable for single family residential use.  Rezoning one or both of the properties will unquestionably cause a domino effect harming the historic/residential quality of the district.  We only have to look to Rice Avenue and Park Place to see the effect of rezoning on residential neighborhoods.

The neighborhood is transitional; it provides homes for people of all ages and cultural heritages.  Homes have been renovated at an increasing rate over the last twenty years.  To change the zoning now would be a major blow to the increasing vitality of the neighborhood.

In order to maintain the residential and historic integrity as well as property values in our long standing neighborhood, the association strongly urges the Board to reject both requests for rezoning.

Sincerely,
Harold B. Cline, Jr.
President
