Near Northern End

The section of the trail between Darlington Run and Blackwell is by far the most beautiful. It passes the Leonard Harrison and Colton Point State Parks. The only road in the first 16 miles is a dirt road into a trail access point. Across the river, we could see a few cottages which have a rustic look. This section is one of the best for scenery in the east. The only problem we had was with black flies; bring repellant.

There are camping areaS along the trail with pumps for drinking water. On this part of the trip we passed a pump at about the halfway point. The trail is well marked with signs for distances to rest rooms, camping areas and access points. We bicycled about 20 miles down and 20 miles back the first day. The first road crossing is at the small town is Blackwell. The only place for snacks in Blackwell is at the Blackwell Hotel near the trail. They have outdoor eating, but the black flies kept us inside.
