South of Princeton, the canal no longer follows the Millstone River and is not as pretty as it is north of Princeton. The surface is also rougher in some sections.

The Princeton Battlefield State Park the site of the first American victory in the Revolutionary War is located just south of Princeton. It is about a mile from the canal towpath and can be reached from Quaker Bridge Rd.
