Northampton Bikeway

After making a round trip on the Norwottuck Trail and returning to the Elwell parking area we cycled about a mile and half through Northampton to the Northampton Bikeway.

Click here for a map showing the location of the Northampton Bikeway. At the Elwell Recreation area there is a Connecticut River Greenway information booth which was open on the Sunday we biked. We got a map which gave a suggested route. We worked our way over by using Rt. 9 about a half mile to Lincoln St., then right to North St. then left on North as it curves around and crosses Rt. 5 and a railroad to State St. then north to the end and the bikeway. The traffic is very heavy on Rt. 9.

It's a short bike trail, only about 3 miles long. We enjoyed it because it follows a pleasant tree shaded route through the city and it terminates in a park at the west end. We stopped at a nice Railroad car type dinner, Miss Florence, in the Florence section of Northampton near Maple St.
