We started at the Elwell Recreation area in Northampton at the western end of the trail. There is a Connecticut River Greenway booth here where we got a copy of the trail brochure. Immediately after leaving the Elwell Recreation area the trail crosses the nearly 1500 foot long bridge over the Connecticut River. This is a great start for the ride. It passes over the end of Elwell Island. The brochure has information on the bridge and on the island.
