The trail is 23 miles long between Jime Thorpe and White Haven, PA. We spent two days; one day sightseeing around the scenic and interesting town of Jim Thorpe and riding up and back on the southern half of the trail. On the second day we biked some on trails around Mauch Chunk Lake County Park and biked the northern half of the Lehigh Gorge Trail out and back.
Here are some pictures of the ride along the trail.
We enjoyed this trail but not as much as some of the other Pennsylvania Rail Trails along rivers; especially the Youghioghenny Rail Trail, the Pine Creek Rail Trail, and the Delaware Canal Towpath. Since we came from New Hampshire and since we are older cyclists wanting moderate rides and some sightseeing(upper 70's at the time of the trip) we combined this trip with looking around the town of Jim Thorpe. There are several mountian biking trails around Jim Thorpe. We only tried a little of the Switchback Trail.
Mauch Chunk Lake has camping and also has mountain biking trails.
The home page of the town of Jim Thorpe gives info on camping, accomodations, and the interesting history of the town. Just the name of the town makes a person curious about its history. Here are some pictures of Jim Thorpe.
