Covered Bridges in West Swanzey
There are three covered bridges all located about a half miles from the trail marked on this map. Get detailed information from the New Hampshire covered bridge site.
The covered bridges that are close to the trail in West Swanzey are Slate Bridge and Thompson Bridge. Close by in Winchester is the Coombs Covered Bridge.
To reach the Thompson Covered Bridge coming from Keene take Railroad St. south when coming into West Swanzey. There is no sign for Railroad St. There is a sign for Pine St. and there is a small electric power installation across the street. Go south a half mile on Railroad St. to Main St. and then right on Main a quarter of a mile to the bridge.
To reach Slate Bridge continue south from Railroad St. The trail crosses Homestead Road (paved) twice at .5 miles and 2 miles. After the second crossing of the paved road go about 1 mile to Depot Rd., a gravel road. This is an area where the trail is rough gravel with some rocks. Before this the trail is soft or grassy. Turn right on Depot Rd. for 0.2 miles to the end at Westport Village Rd. and then right for .4 miles to Slate Bridge.
To reach Coombs Bridge, continue south on the trail .6 miles from Depot Rd. to Rt. 10. Continue on the trail 0.6 miles to Coombs Rd. (paved). Then go right about a quarter mile to Coombs Bridge.
To reach it coming from the south, under a bridge on Main St. then another quarter mile on the trail to Railroad St. and follow the above directions.
