Allegheny River Trail
When we started on the trail, we had an outdated map and thought the trail was completed for only about 8 miles south of Franklin. Actually it was completed for another 10 miles. Pennsylvania builds trails faster than people can ride them. This is a reason to go back and ride again. Further south the trail goes through two long tunnels and the trail info says to carry flashlights. We went about 5 miles south of Brandon. There are no restaurants near the trail; only a stand selling ice cream and soda. The only community we passed was Brandon which is mostly houses along the river with no business district. This is a very scenic rural trail.
