| The Writer's Digest 2001 Writing Competition attracted nearly 19,000 entries. 1,632 entries in the Genre Short Story category. My Story, A Wanted Child, earned Honorable Mention in the top 100 Genre Short Stories, placing at #28. After the competition was over, I could not get the story out of my mind. It has returned again and again until I sat down and rewote it and changed its name. Against My Will is an intimate look at the emotional damage caused by rape. Carina Dekker is a young college student when her life is changed by sudden brutality. As Carina struggles to cope, she is faced with the horrific realization that she is carrying the rapist's child. Can Carina keep a child conceived in hate? Would she be better off to terminate the pregnancy? Despite pressures from her family and friends, Carina must do what is best for herslef, and for the child. This has been sent to an agent and I will update this page as I hear back from them.
