Some of my favorite prayers
These are good prayers for various times and seasons. They come from men and women, famous and unknown, scholars and students.
v Prayer of Thomas Merton (Fr. Louis, OCSO)
My Lord God,
I have no idea where I am
going
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor
do I really know myself,
And the fact that I think I am following
your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But
I believe that the desire to please
you does in fact please you.
And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing.
And I know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right
road
though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore
will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost
and in the shadow of death, I will not fear, for you are
ever with me
and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.
v Shield of St. Patrick
Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me;
Christ to comfort and restore me;
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
v Psalm 116:12-18
How can I repay the Lord for all the good done for me?
I will raise the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of his people.
Lord, I am your servant, your servant the child of your maidservant; you have loosed my bonds.
I will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord.
I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of his people.
