Here is the exact reply from Scott at Santa Cruz Bicycles. Thanks Scott. 1-Do you see any major changes for the 2002 line of Bullits? --There will be some changes, but we do not have any details yet. Right now we are spending most of our efforts on getting the new VPP downhill bike (see attachment) ready for the 2002 season. We are really happy with the Bullit right now, and will probably just make a few minor changes for 2002. 2-How is the BB clearance? Is it a low BB? --The BB height on the Bullit frame is adjustable. You can change the angles and bottom bracket height on the Bullit by loosening the two bolts that mount the rear shock to the frame and sliding the adjustable shock shuttle forward and aft. In the forward position the head tube and seat tube angles are slackened (68 and 69 degrees) and the bottom bracket height is lowered (12.8 inches high). In the rear position the head tube and seat tube angles are steeper (69.3 and 70.3 degrees) and the bottom bracket height is raised (13.5inches high). 3-Do you sposor riders with Bullits? --We do sponsor some riders who like to use the Bullit for DH or DS racing, but most of our sponsored DH racers ride the Super 8. 4-How much does the rear end squat under general riding? ----This is a hard measurement to quantify. It all depends on how you set the bike up. (Spring weight, preload, damping, etc.) The Bullit is designed to be a bike that you can ride all over the place, not just the downhills. It gets 6 inches of rear wheel travel, but it still climbs really well. 4 hour epic rides are not just for cross country bikes. The Bullit is kind of a go-anywhere-do-anything type of bike. 5-What's the max. rear tire clearance? --It kind of depends on the specific tire manufacturer and model, but we have used a lot of the 2.4" to 2.6" sizes with some mud clearance to spare. 6-is the DH kit the same as on the Super 8? --No. The 2001 DH kit is for the Super 8 only. For the Bullit we have what we call a Freeride option, that lets you add more Freeride/DH type of components to our standard kits. It includes the standard stuff, plus: Hayes or Magura disc brakes Race Face North Shore cranks and BB WTB DH wheelset, include WTB DH rims, laserdisc hubs, 20 mm front thru-axle hub WTB Motoraptor 2.4 tires Azonic World Force Riser bar Thompson seatpost T.H.E. fender (The Freeride kit works only with Rock Shox Psylo Race (Tullio) and Marzocchi QR20 forks) |
