learned to make chain mail at my first event. I started making key fobs from coat hangers. It's a ridiculously tough material, and a total pain to work. My recommendation: electric fence wire-- it's cheap and available at your local feed store.

My first armor, like many youth-challenged SCA members, was a shag carpet "tabard" over a padded gambeson. When I fought in it I looked like the Sta-Puffed Marshmellow man. The first time I fought in it was in the Pennsic War. In the rain. SQUISH.

The first time Jason made us do "Stupid Squire Tricks" before high table, he DIDN'T know that Peter, Barnabas, Rhodri and I could SING! "Lady Godiva" stunned him. Then there was the time that Rhodri, Finn and I seranaded Queen Twilla at Twefth Night with "The Werewolves of Andover"--wearing shades...
