This page is dedicated to the girl of my revolutionary dreams, Julia Butterfly Hill. I first heard of her on the news but I was too young to fully appreciate her courage. I remember admiring how much she really cared about her cause to live in a tree for two years but that was the extent of it. Now when I think of Julia I am filled with awe and a great sense of respect. She is truly a comrade who has done more than her share to better our planet and fight the capitalist mentality of profits above all else. Another comrade I greatly admire is Crazy Pete, whose love of Julia is well documented, and I would hate to betray Pete and move in on Julia but if I get the chance I am definately going to try. I mean look at her, she is beyond beautiful. And did I mention she is a vegan? Thats three for three in my book; Anti Capitalist, Beautiful, and Vegan. Julia is a founding member of The Circle of Life Foundation, which works to activate people through education to live lives that honor nature rather than exploiting it. She is also an accomplished author, having written two books that you can order from the foundations site. Her first appearance in the public eye came when she ascended an ancient redwood outside of Stafford, California to save it from destruction. The group named the tree Luna after assembling Julia's platform in the moonlight. Luna was over a thousand years old but was in danger from Pacific Lumber Corporation who was logging the area. Julia succeeded in her cause even though it took over six hundred days for PLC to agree to spare Luna and give her a six hundred square foot buffer zone. Since then Julia has remained a recognized warrior of enviormental causes and is in demand for speeches and book signings throughout the world. Not to mention she has to put up with constant proposals from nuts like me and Pete. |
