
Dhankuta is a beautiful town situated in Mahabharat range of eastern Nepal. There was no existence of Dhankuta about 17 th century before. As the time, Nepal and Tibet war, it was difficult to export food from Terai to the boarders for army troops & the business man due to very long distance, so they started paddy had being beaten in this place, was named as "Dhanyakut" but slowly the name Dhanyakut was got hearsay by vulgar language changed into "Dhankuta" by the change in time.
In the period of Rana's, Dhnakuta was familiar as Dhankuta castle (Gauda) and again it was declared as the headquaters of Eastern Regional Development Sector was changed into Municipality in 2046 B.S after the came back of Democracy.
According to geographically, this district
is situated at 26053' to 27019'
northern longitude and 8708' to 87033' eastern latitude, as well area covered
by district are 887.7 square km. This district touches seven other district such
as: in eastern border with Terathum and Panchthar, western border with
Bhojpur and Udayapur, Northern border with Sankhuwasabha and Southern Part
touches with Morang and Sunsari district of Mahabharat range. Its geographical
height from sea-level is minimum 120m to maximum 2702 m.
By politically, this district has been divided into one municipality, 35 (thirty five) village development committe and also divided into two (2) Electorial area and 11 Eelakas.
