How to use Shareaza behind Firewall or Proxy Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

I am having my system behind a proxy server which blocks the P2P ports like 4662 etc. I was unable to connect to e-Donkey Network and Shareaza network due to the firewall (block ports). After searching the Net I found out that Port 135 is used by Microsoft DCOM service which can be stopped and used for P2P connectivity. I have successfully blocked the port and now i am able to connect (download and upload) to e-donkey and shareaza network.

What is Required: (I am doing this on Windows 2000 Professional)

1. Administrator password (to stop services)
2. DCOMbob (which will disable the dcom)
Download: http://grc.com/files/DCOMbob.exe

Let's do it:

1. Login as administrator
2. run "services.msc" in the RUN dialog
(or in the Task Bar properties enable 'Display Administrative tools' from where you can access Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->Services)

3. In the services Window, Disable the Two Services:
a. Distributed Transaction Coordinator (and)
b. Task Scheduler
How to disable a service:
i) Right click on 'Distributed Transaction coordinator' or Task Scheduler
ii) choose Properties
iii) from the Drop Down List 'Startup type' choose Disabled.
iv) stop it, if the status is started or running

4. After disabling the above 2 mentioned services run DCOMbob

5. in the Dcombob window, click on the tab 'DCOMbobulate ME!'
6. and click on 'Disable DCOM'
7. Now Restart Windows

8. Start Shareaza and in the Connection Settings enter port 135.

Now you can access p2p network. hope this helps.
