music

I play a few intruments, mainly guitar and piano, which I have been playing for any number of years now, but also mandolin and various other instruments I have lying around, at varying degrees of skillfulness. I am a Christian, so I think (or I hope!!) that comes across in my songs. A true artist expresses what is in their heart, (and music is somehow very powerful in how it cuts to that very heart) and since those beliefs are the basis for who I am, there's no way I could not write about such things!

My music is acoustic, and other than that I've had a hard time pinning down a good word to describe it. Probably "folk," or "singer-songwriter" would be the closest. I usually play solo, but every so often, I will collaborate with my family (who are fine musicians!) or friends of mine.

My influences are pretty broad, and include pretty much everything I've listened to. So it's quite a wide range of music. Some are pretty obvious: You'll find me listening to Phil Keaggy, and some people would say Nick Drake has influenced my playing. Dougie Maclean's work also interests me. I have recently been listening to a songwriter named Alexi Murdoch that I quite enjoy. Some of my influences are a little less obvious: i.e. Kila (an awesome Irish multinstrumentalist group) as well as some more popular groups which I won't go into because it might ruin my reputation. <--sarcasm
