Introduction to Astrology

There are twelve planets in solar system which seem to move around the earth. The original meaning of the word "planet" is a body which appears to move in the sky. Hence in astrology, the Sun and the Moon are also called as planets, even though they are star and satellite respectively. The names of these planets and the aspects that they signify are as follows - 1. Sun (Ravi) - Sun is the king of all planets. It is masculine planet which is sometimes auspicious and sometimes evil. It stands for brilliance, all kinds of arts, education. It also represents ego, soul, government job, medical field, fame, respect, popularity etc. It denotes yellow, golden and red color. Its sign is Leo (Simha). 2. Mercury (Budha)- Mercury is the prince of all planets. Mercury is of neuter gender. It becomes benefic when in company of benefic planets and becomes malefic, when in the company of malefic planets. It represents communication, speech, business, paper work, writing, memory, cleverness, knowledge etc. Its color is dark green or white. The signs over which it rules are Gemini (Mithuna) and Virgo (kanyaa). 3. Venus (Shukra) - Venus is a feminine, auspicious planet. It represents all kinds of materialistic pleasures. All entertainment sources such as songs, drama, movies, sex, vehicles, money, love affairs etc. come under the control of venus. All kinds of arts also come under venus, i-e, poetry, literature, music etc. Venus also represents knowledge. The colour of venus is white, cream colour, light blue. Its signs are Taurus (Vrishabha) and Libra (Toola). 4. Moon (Chandra) - Moon is the queen of all planets. It is a feminine, benefic planet. Moon represents mind, emotions, mother, dreams, fantasies, ideas, creativity. The colour of moon is white, light green. Its sign is cancer (karka). 5. Mars (Mangal) - Mars is a masculine, malefic planet. It is the commander-in-chief among all the planets. Mars stands for manliness, aggressiveness, physical energy, quickness, fighting spirit, tit-for-tat etc. The colour of mars is red. Its signs are Aries (Mesha) and Scorpio (Vrushchika). 6. Jupiter (Guru) - Jupiter is a masculine, benefic planet. It is the teacher, hence the name 'Guru'. As you might have guessed, Jupiter stands for knowledge, metaphysics, wisdom. It also represents religion, spirituality, teaching, benevolence, friendly nature, positive energy, forgiveness etc. The colour of juppiter is yellow, golden. Its signs are sagittarius (dhanu) and pisces (meena). 7. Saturn (Shani) - Saturn is the most propitiated planet amongst all. Saturn is a malefic planet of neuter gender. Saturn also gives you knowledge, but it teaches you through experience. Saturn tries to make you perfect. It keeps on punishing you until you become perfect. Saturn represents deep thinking, meditation, justice, emotionlessness, mercilessness, service to others, sacrifices, delays, longetivity, tall height etc. The colour of saturn is black. Its signs are capricorn (makara) and aquarius (kumbha). 8. Uranus (Prajapati) - Uranus also called Herchelle, is a malefic, masculine planet. 9. Neptune (Varun) - Neptune is a benefic, feminine planet. It is an inward going planet. It tries to make you introvert. Also it is idealistic planet, trying to make your thinking and behaviour ideal. 10. Pluto - It is an evil planet. It represents earth quakes, volcanoes, large accidents, natural calamities etc. 11. Dragon's head (Rahu) - Rahu is an evil, masculine planet. Its qualities are similar to those of saturn. 12. Dragon's tail (Ketu) - Ketu is an evil, masculine planet. Its qualities are similar to those of mars. There are twelve zodiac signs (Rashi) formed due to very distant stars :- 1. Aries (Mesha) 2. Tauras (Vrishabha) 3. Gemini (Mithuna) 4. Cancer (Karka) 5. Leo (Sinha) 6. Virgo (Kanyaa) 7. Libra (Toola) 8. Scorpio (Vrishchika) 9. Sagittarius (Dhanu) 10. Capricorn (Makara) 11. Aquaruis (Kumbha) 12. Pisces (Meena) Similarly there are twelve houses in a horoscope which denote the variuos aspects of our life - 1. First house - It represents self, one's life energy, attitude towards life, basic mental set up, physical personality, outwards appearance etc. 2. Second house - It indicated one's family, possessions, wealth, bank accounts, salary etc. 3. Third house - It stands for one's bravery, younger sibling, small journeys, ability to take initiative etc. 4. Fourth house - It represents all pleasures like house, mother, vehicle etc. According to K.P., it also indicates education. 5. Fifth house - It represents education according to traditional system. All kinds of arts, sports, mantras, devotion to god, prayers etc are shown by this house. Fifth house also indiactes love affiars. 6. Sixth house - It stands for enemies, pet animals, servants, service, etc. 7. Seventh house- It indicates all kinds of partners - life partner i-e spouse, the personality of your spouse, business partner, rivals, person with whom you are making any deal, close encounters, your employer etc. It also indicates taking halt in journey, or any work undertaken. 8. Eight house - It indicated death, longetivity of your life, how/when your end will come, permanent loss of anything etc. 9. Ninth house - It indicates whether one is religous, higher education, long journeys, unknown persons, father (according to K.P), temples, churches, mosques, etc. 10. Tenth house - It represents career, job, business, profession, reputation, status in society, livelihood, father etc. 11. Eleventh house - It is the house og gains, and represents all kinds of gains, fullfilment of your wishes, desires etc. It also stands for your friend circle, contacts, benefactors, elder siblings. 12. Twelfth house - It represents all kinds of losses, going to foreign places, jails, hospitals, mines, theft, hidden enemies etc.
