Today, I drove past the Cedar Bluff Christian Bookstore and saw a "Honk if you love Jesus" bumper sticker for sale. I was feeling pretty good and I went in and bought the sticker and put it on my bumper.
What an uplifting experience!
I stopped at a red light, at the busy intersection of Kingston Pike and Cedar Bluff, lost in thought. I didn't see the light change to green. It is a good thing that someone else loves Jesus, because if he hadn't honked, I'd never have noticed.
I discovered that there are lots of people who love Jesus! While I was sitting there, the fellow behind me was honking his horn repeatedly. He leaned out of his window and screamed: "For the love of God!! GO!! Jesus Christ, GO!! What an enthusiastic cheerleader he was for Jesus!
At that very moment, everyone began honking! I leaned out of my window and started waving and smiling at all of these loving people. I even honked my horn a few times to share the experience with them. There must have been a man from Florida in the line, because I heard him yelling something about a "sunny beach".
I saw another fellow waving in a funny way with only his middle finger pointing in the air. I wonder what religious symbol that was and what it means?? Perhaps it was a Cherokee good luck sign, used in the Smoky Mountains. So, I leaned out the window and returned the good luck sign, to be kind.
A couple of drivers were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me. I'll bet that they wanted to share a prayer, or ask what church I attended. At that moment, I noticed that the light had turned green. So, I waved goodbye and drove on through the intersection.
As I drove away, I noticed that mine was the only car that got through the intersection, before it changed to red. I was very sad to have left my friends behind, especially after all the love that we had just shared.
What a rewarding day! I think that I will drive over there again tomorrow and look for my "new" friends.
