In the late 50's and early 60's we were involved in verious Lay ministries. I served in many different posts. We both taught Sunday School classes, and were involved with other children's ministries. I was a Boy Scout Master and then I became involved with the Royal Ranger program.
I served as a Deacon and a youth leader for several years. I felt that I should take a course that the District offered for future Ministers. I at that time did not sense that God might use me in the Pulpit Ministry, I just wanted to know more of the Word of God. This looked like a good way to achieve that goal. I never even told anyone that I was taking the District Course. It was a four year course and it was just what I needed.
The church that we were members of went through a split, when a former Pastor took a number of the people and started a new church. Our Pastor at that time decided to leave and after talking to the District asked me if I felt any leading from the Holy Spirit about possibly becoming the Pastor. As far as I know he did not know that I was involved with the District Course. After much prayer and discussion we assumed the Pastorate. That was in April 1967. Later I was ordained into the full time Ministry. Since that time we Pastored churches in Alabama and Florida.
Our last Church was Abundant Life Assembly in Lithia Florida.
We are helping in the church that we are members of, in Lady Lake Florida. It is so wonderful that even in our old age we are still able to do a little something in the work of the Lord.
