My Cages
1977 GMC Sprint Serria Madre del Sur
Some pictures are close copies until I get my old photos scanned.
1977 GMC Sprint Serria Madre del Sur >
My first car.  Or was it my first truck?
Unlike the pic, mine had rally rims, bucket seats, and vertical grille bars.  I covered the box with a padded black vinyl over plywood cover.  Eventually I built up the motor and added mags and 4 into 1 outside exhausts.
< 1976 Honda Civic Sedan (Trunk, not hatchback.)
This was my wife's car when we got married in 1981.  It was a great little car that was fun to drive and easy to park.  She loved the yellow paint.  It could almost find its own way to Tony's Donairs.  We sold it and the Sprint in 1982.
1982 Camaro >
This car handled great and had the best sound system I've ever heard.  Unfortunately it spent half of our 10 months together in the shop.  It looked good standing still... Which it eventually did best.  We traded it in when we were expecting our first child.  No room for a stroller in a Camaro!
< 1983 Volvo 245
Solid, reliable and comfortable.  This car did it all. We slept in it.  Kids puked in it.  Diapers got changed in it.  Over our 16 years together this car paid for itself many times over.  Perhaps I'll buy another new one when the kids finish college.
1992 Volkswagen Golf Diesel >
It had a volume control for an accelerator.  It got louder but didn't speed up.  Actually this was another really good car.  I'd have kept it forever but we outgrew it.  There was no room for two tall teens, suitcases, and a dog.
Similar to this, mine was a four door.
< 1978 Volvo 244
Solid, reliable and comfortable.  This car was bought for parts and ended up being a daily driver. The '83 was slowly assimilated into the '78. Eventually I sold them both: $200 drive 1 drag 1.
1998 Ford Windstar
1998 Ford Windstar >
Lots of room for two tall teens, suitcases, a dog, and skis.  This van racked up many miles in car-pools driving kids arround and towing canoe/kayak trailers for Cheema.  We had it on a two year lease... Oops, no equity on trade-in.
1998 Dodge Neon XR
< 1998 Plymouth Neon
Disposable.  Quick and fun yet you could feel that it would not age well.  After so many long life cars we decided to get rid of this after its 30 month lease ran out.  It launched real fast.
1991 GMC Suburban SLE
1991 GMC Suburban SLE >
My wife bought this for me in April, 1999. She paid $5,800.00 for it and 18 months later we got $6,000.00 trading it in on a new Civic. It was a great truck that would go anywhere in comfort. It was at home on the highway or in the mud and deep snow. This was the first vehicle my daughter ever drove.  Her first try was on a rainy night when she drove all of Waverley Rd like a pro. She learned to handle this like a toy.
< 1980 Ford F150
A white ex-Air Canada stair truck.  It had 58,000 kms and a new engine when I bought it in 2000.  It is solid and reliable.  The Suburban got better mileage.  Learning to drive at 90 kmh was tough.
I replaced the 4.87:1 with a 3:1 rear end.  The gas mileage has improved considerably.

2000 Honda Civic SE
2000 Honda Civic >
Our second Civic, a world away from the '76. This is a nice small sedan. It is fun to drive and holds the road well.  It should last a long time if it survives teenage drivers.
1990 Honda Prelude SRI
< 1990 Honda Prelude SRI
Bought it for $2,500 to drive instead of the old F150. She was crazy fast and cornered like on rails. Gas mileage was excelent. I gave her to our daughter in Dec '04 after buying a new Jimmy.
Just an hour after we bought her.
2005 GMC Jimmy ZR2 >
Bought on Dec 1st 2004 to replace both the F150 and Prelude. It was great to be back with 4WD for the winter. Gas mileage isn't great but she's very comfortable to drive and was an excellent tow vehicle for the old boat.
