Coat of Arms
of Unknown GIST
of Wormington Grange
Gloucestershire, England
(probably descendant of Samuel Gist [1723-1815])
Yes, of course I know that none of us are allowed to bear coats of arms, but they are fun, aren't they? This scan of a photocopy comes from a photograph taken by my 1st cousin while assigned to England with the US Air Force, of a Gist Coat of Arms found at Wormington Grange, Gloucestershire, England.
Steven B. Madewell provided me with the Blazons [descriptions] for the 2 Gist entries in Burkes' General Armory, p. 402. They are:

Gist of Wormington Grange, Gloucester County.
BLAZON:  Per pale Gules and Sable, on a chevron engrailed Erminois between three swans' heads and neckes erased Ermine, as many fleurs-de-lis Azure.
CREST:  A swan's head and neck erased Ermine collared Gules, between two palm branches Vert.

Gist or Gest
BLAZON:..Sable, a chevron Or, between three swans' necks erased Argent.
CREST:..A swan's head and neck erased between two ostrich feathers Argent.

Here is a very helpful
Heraldry site to help decipher these descriptions.

Wes Groleau also has a page on the origins of these arms.
