A Little About Me...

UNDER HEAVY CONSTRUCTION!

South side of the Pyramid complex at Giza, Egypt,

Dad was in the US Air Force, we grew up all over. My favorite assignment was Bitburg Air Base, Germany.

I went to four different high schools, but I graduated from Paragould High School, Greene County, Arkansas.

I went to Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and did the ROTC program.

Somehow I ended up as a second lieutenant at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, at the Ordnance Center and School.  I was managing editor for the Ordnance Magazine,  (which is online now), and got out of the Army five years later as a captain. Then I went to work for the Mid-Atlantic Food Dealers Association, where I was editor of the Food Industry Skirmisher.

Then I got married and our first assignment was to the US Embassy, Cairo, Egypt.  We lived in Maadi, a lovely green suburb of Cairo. Our daughter went to kindergarten and 1st grade at Cairo American College.  Here is a virtual tour of the school and of Maadi.

I loved the five years we spent in Egypt. Shopping at the Khan el-Kalili was one of my favorite things to do. Here is a Virtual Khan I found so I can still shop for things I forgot to get.  This site is endorsed by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, and the prices look pretty good to me...

I love Middle Eastern Food, and my husband was fond of Stella Local, the National Beer of Egypt. The best bottled water I have ever had was Baraka, ['blessing' in Arabic] a natural water bottled in Egypt.

While in Egypt I visited Luxor three times, twice by cruise ship, and once I took the train from Cairo. My favorite temple of all is Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis.

We are presently assigned to Fort Stewart, Georgia, and live in Hinesville.  We live less than an hour from beautiful, historic Savannah.
