Melfina was found by Gene in a freezer box that he found directed by Hilda where to go. Melfina was originally created by the Kai-Pirates as the navigator for the X-GP15A-II, also known as the Outlaw Star. She submerges herself naked into a tank of liquid to free her of her senses. She is then furthered connected by her mind to the main ships on-board computer Gilliam.
She is a bio-android which means she is made of a mechanical endo-skeleton with acutal living tissue growing around her. She has brain, lungs, and heart just like everyone else but is considered an android because she was not born by childbirth. The lines of human and android are fuzzy in the time of Outlaw Star and Melfina is one of those who attempt to clear out their place for themselves.
